Subject: New to Lallybroch!!!

Hi Everyone!!!

I am SOOOO new to Outlander.

I edit my daughter's work (the aspiring writer) and she posed a question to me about a year ago. "How do I write sex scenes?" Well, I made some suggestions but she then said, "but what if one isn't human and a virgin?" Honest. This is a quote. Well, it's been a long time for me and I don't think I've ever been on the ... let's not go there. Since she writes fan fiction, I went to a fan fic writer with whom I am acquainted and asked for suggestions. She said, tell her to read Outlander.

My daughter who-knows-everything (NOT!!!! LOL) has yet to read any of Diana Gabaldon's books. I was guilty of that as well. I read a synposis or two of Outlander but put it close to the bottom of my to-read list as it wasn't a genre I typically read (Patricia Cornwell, Philip Margolin...). I cringed to risk $15 on a new copy so ...

Outlander kept popping up on used bookstore shelves, then a little more than a month ago for twenty cents at the local thrift store. I could risk twenty cents. I bought it, took it home, and set it amongst the other "possible books to read" on my night stand. It sat for two weeks until I moved it up in status to my "read on the bus" book (just under the really good stuff that is classified as "read before bed").

I read once that an agent reads fifty pages and if he's not hooked, the book gets tossed. I got to twenty (something to do with the twenty cents, perhaps?) and found myself really interested. By thirty or so pages, I'd arrived downtown. Browsing the used bookstore, found a better copy and left the twenty cent version as a freebie at the register. Reading further came the realization that I was in the midst of the second Jacobite Rising where both lines of my maternal grandfather's family were fighting (Clan Shaw (Jacobites) and the other line that goes back to the beginnings of the House of Stuart LOL).

Then came Jamie (LMFAO)...ahhh such middle aged lust here...

Four days later, I had read the book and since then have lived in utter frustration that my next influx of funds was not for a week (tomorrow, tomorrow, yes!! tomorrow!!!!) To save my sanity, I started reading Outlander again.

So, with that, I will close, and thank you all for being here and giving me a place to plop.

Kate
