This is the place to introduce yourselves to Ladies of Lallybroch.

Before you start posting on any of the other LOL message boards, PLEASE, visit our introduction area in The Parlor. Here's a direct link: THE PARLOR. Many of those questions burning on the tip of your tongue will be answered there, and also at the LOL FAQ, which you can find here: FAQ. If you are new to Message Boards, and don't know how to post, check our Step-by-Step Posting Instructions. (Since we moved from the old boards to Voy.com these instructions still need to be updated. They are basically the same except now you can either SEND your message (it will automatically post) or PREVIEW your message first to proofread it and then hit SEND. Please look for the PREVIEW button.)

And since there are so many of us, and we like to know who is who, unless you have such a unique name you're sure there won't be another :-), please use your last name initial after your name, or choose a hosed nickname, so you won't be confused with another poster.

Well, I was researching on when Herself's (I can get the hang of that easily!) newest masterpiece would be out, and stumbled across this wonderful little haven! Now, I am 21 years old, and I ran across these books (stolen from my mother!) when I was about 13, and have been reading them nonstop ever since! My favorites out of the series are 'Outlander' and 'Voyager', and, well, being a bit of a bibliophile in all ways, I have to say that DG is one of [i]the best[/i] authors I have ever come across! I've recommended her writings to so many people, and it is so great to come across people who are just as obsessed with her works as I am! :)

- My elder daughter recommended Outlander to me last April. Busy with homeschooling, working, and raising a family, I just hadn't come across it when it was first published, but I eagerly devoured them--my new favorite author. I just recommended the series to my younger daughter this summer, and she is working her way through them in bits of time stolen from college studies. Hi, everyone!! I am also new to LOL, but definitely not new to the Outlander series... In fact, my sister recommended Outlander to me a long time ago, and I had to get it in hardback at the local library. I have re-read the entire series every time a new book is to be released!! I love them!!! I have just finished the series again, getting ready for 'An Echo in the Bone'. 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes' was almost as good as 'Outlander'..... Claire and Jamie seem like part of my family!!!

Hello from a fellow Hoser! I'm from Alberta Canada and after listening to my Sister-in-law talk about the Outlander Series, decided to give it a try. I really knew nothing about it and was a bit daunted by the size of the book. I dove in, not realizing there were 6 in the series with another soon to be released. I quickly read book one and then, because I pride myself on reading a diversity of books, picked up the next on my reading list, a fluffy chic-lit.

I could not wait to get through it so I could get back to Claire and her adventures with hopes of she and Jamie continuing on with their relationship *wink,wink* ( oh ;).

I have just begun book 2 - Dragonfly in Amber and so far, I am not disappointed. I hope to become engaged in some great discussions on this board.

HI everyone! I am so happy to have found this site! I was introduced to the Outlander series by an aunt who read them years ago. I am now in the middle of Drums of Autumn and I am totally in love with Jamie Fraser! (Don't tell my husband!) So many things come about from day-to-day that remind me of Jamie, Claire and all of the other characters and places in the Outlander books. They all make me wish I could just go home and curl up and read, read, read!

I have read all of the books and LOVE everything about them. As is everyone else, I am anxiously awaiting for Echo! I miss my characters! How are the audiobooks? Do they give another feeling or dimension than reading the books? I might not be able to drive down the road with some of those scenes! Tell me your opinion on the audiobooks! By the way....I have enjoyed following the quote of the day section....keeps me smiling

- Welcome to Lallybroch! Get the unabridged audiobooks, by Davina Porter! Outlander was my first audiobook ever. I expected different actors for each voice, & sound effects --horses hooves, swords clanking, battle cries, etc. But this is a straight read-aloud only, sans effects, with DP doing all the voices. Once you adjust to that, it's great. Sex scenes are much steamier --she's great at reading them. All of the story is given an added dimension by listening instead of silently reading. Be careful, however, if you'll be listening on your way to work. I need to leave early, because I find myself driving the long way to work in order to finish listening to the rest of the chapter. - I personally LOVE audiobooks, especially read by persons with English accents. Davina Porter does an excellent job in the unabridged audio series, and I think she does a credible Scottish accent for Jamie. The audiobooks are just the ticket for long solo car trips. If you're unsure, borrow one from the library first, if you're thinking about purchasing, since they're pricy. I loaded the books on my MP3 player, so it's easier to manage in the car. Hi all. I'm from Dunbar on the East Coast of Scotland. I became a fan of the Outlander series just a few months ago thanks to the recommendations of two friends - 1 lives in Finland, the other in Germany.

I absolutely adore the books - I'm 3/4's of the way through The Fiery Cross and I'm on track to have read all the books before Echo comes out on 22nd September.

I also had the absolute pleasure to meet Diana Gabaldon at The Gathering in Edinburgh last month. She very kindly signed Cross Stitch for me and I've got a lovely pic too!

I'm looking forward to looking around the website.

I just found Outlander in Feb of this year -- Brooke, 08:39:31 07/27/09 Mon
and just turned the final page of ABOSAA last night. I'm an avid reader and saw the title on a "must read favorite book list" online and decided to give it a try. These books have completely absorbed me and I'm totally addicted. I'm actually feeling quite lost without a new Outlander book to read and feel sort of down that I don't have any new Jamie and Claire adventures to get lost in. I'm impatiently waiting for the new book to come out in Sept and thrilled to hear that there will be more books after that one, I just hope that I don't have to wait years and years for it to come out. That would be so hard after having the first 7 books to read in a row. Anyway, I'm thrilled to find a place where people love and share my addiction to these books! :)

My Outlander story... or part thereof.
Ten years ago, on the day my first son was born, as a gift I was given a copy of "Dragonfly in Amber".
I was intrigued, I knew it couldn't be the first book... so went hunting for the others... hehe.
Ten years later, i've read the series three times, bought the series three times, and keep lending the books out, and for some reason they never get boomeranged back... lol.
but, I know the pleasure I get from reading them, and so if the people I lend the books to get pleasure as well, then i'll still be smiling when I have to buy the next book again (-:

After beginning DG's series in January and finishing ABOSAS in May, I decided to take a break so that my husband wouldn't think that I had deserted him. But of course, as some of you may share my feelings, I soon needed that "escape" again and so I bought the books that I had been reading from the library and began my re-visit back to that Highlander of my dreams (my husband is German descent) and what do I see when I turn the very first page! There is going to be a seventh book!!! No kidding, my husband tells me to make sure that the freezer is stocked completely before September :) I love him dearly but I think that he is very relieved that I have found "sisters" to talk with about these characters whom I feel in my heart are truely nonfictional. I'm mean they can not be fictional, right? j/k I have gotten lost in a lot of books, but I have never come across an author that has left this kind of impression on me.

Once I got hooked on Outlander, I promptly ordered the whole series from Amazon because the hold list at the library was so long. I was able to borrow all the books on CD's and listen to them in the car for my second read-through. I have the nagging suspicion these books will be on at least an annual re-read schedule for me. Two of my collegues at work are also completly cuckoo about the series, as we are all experiencing for the first time together, and we have a hard time getting any work done as we talk about the books ALL THE TME! My best friend recommended the Outlander books to me about a month ago, I am now halfway through "Fiery Cross" and am totally in love with the series. I have gone on to recommend it to my friends as well.

I stummbled upon the first books in the series a few summers ago on my mothers bookshelf! I couldn't believe that she had never suggested I read them...and that she hadn't finished reading the series!
Needless to say I was immediatly hooked and purchased the rest of the series. I am now half way through re-reading the series and I swear its almost better the second time around! Can't wait for September 22!

I started reading the series at the beginning of June. I'm almost halfway through Voyager. My hairdresser recommended the book to me. I can't believe I hadn't heard about the books before. Anyway, I'm hooked. I'm savoring every page. I don't want to rush the pleasure. Nice to have a place to feed the obsession!

I started reading the Outlander series in Feb of 2009 and have now read all six once and the first four twice. I just couldn't stop. I am reading the Lord John books now. These are the most absorbing and wonderful books I have ever read - and I read a lot.

I just found Outlander about 6 weeks ago. I broke my foot and was looking for some more reading material. A friend of mine recommended Outlander and less than 6 weeks later I am almost done with ABOSAA and will be first in line at the bookstore when Echo comes out in September! Out of curiosity, I was wondering which book in the series is your favorite. My daughter and I have discussed this, and we differ a bit. Outlander, then Dragonfly in Amber, and Drums of Autumn are my favorites, in that order. Of course, each book kept me intrigued, or I would not have read the series, but I enjoy Brianna and Roger with their modern interjections and thoughts. That's why I can't wait for An Echo in the Bone!

Hi all! I'm so happy to have found so many people who love Jamie and Claire as much as I do! I'm re-reading the series for the second time, and as the title of this message suggests, am ever so slightly shifting my work from writing my master's thesis on a nightly basis to re-reading the Drums of Autumn (where I'm at in my re-reading frenzy). I just finished the part where Claire performs the hernia surgery in front of Jocasta and her entire party, fantastic!! I love this series and I can't wait for An Echo in the Bone to come out!!

I met a Scotsman and Scotslady last night. This couple was visiting his brother here in Penna. They came to our Garden Club picnic at a lovely-historic-stone house. The house dates back to 1791, and has been lovingly restored. The barns and grounds are verra romantic! Hearing their Scottish brogue, I couldn't help my imagination! I finally asked if they happened to read Outlander. They have not, but they seemed quite pleased that I have read about the highlands. I told them that the characters end up in North Carolina, and then return to Scotland. The lady looked at me and said, "why would they do that?" I was quite taken aback at that response! I also told them that we have been to Scotland, and our story about Dahlwinnie (sp?). I actually had a hard time understanding them, the brogue, like some of the dialects in England, can be difficult to understand. You have to listen intently.

Both families are working class and have very distinct regional accents - "ayuh!" " aye luv!" When they first met, DH and I had to translate as they did not understand each other. Well, I tried to read the stack of magazines that have piled up since my spare time was taken up with Jamie and Claire. The magazines just don't cut it. When my daughter brought me Outlander, I didn't think I would enjoy it at all - a romantic novel...silly. She insisted I would like it. I haven't read a romance in a long time. I enjoy mysteries, spy novels, and historic novels, not a silly romance. She kept asking if I started the book, and I decided to give it a try. The next thing I knew, I was asking if I could borrow the second book, then the third. Then I started buying them for myself. I need to buy the 2nd and 3rd books to complete my series. I treasure good books, and I like having them on the shelves.

I will take your suggestions and see if the library has the CD to listen to. I doubt our small library has it, but I'll try. Thanks for the suggestions and recommendations.

I just finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and feeling like there is a hole in my life! I broke my leg 1 1/2 yrs ago and while going through a long recovery, my daughter brought me the Outlander. Once I picked up the book, I couldn't put it down! I read the whole series and can't wait for the next one in Sept. However, I was wondering if the Lord John Grey books should be my next read, or the Outlandish Companion. I can't wait to see what happens to Jamie and Claire, and what Bree and Roger do! My daughter and I talk about these characters as if they are real people. I have never been so rapt with a series of books or their characters! Which book(s) would you recommend until September?

I'm so happy to find such wonderful company! Just finished Snow and Ashes, and I'm anxiously awaiting September 22! (my daughter thinks it's hysterical that I can relate to her goings on about the next Twilight because of all this)

My boss hosed me! She had been listening to these books while we worked and kept feeding me bits about it until I just had to hear for myself. Listened to the first 4 via Audible (I Love Davina Porter's narration!), then I had to cave and read the last two. I know that in all of my 1/2 century life, I have never read 2000 pages of book so fast as these! Dinners were put off, children ignored, knitting went unknit, all because I had to keep reading! Och Aye!

I discovered this series on the recommend of my elder daughter in April. She sent me home with Outlander, and my life has changed forever! I was immediately combing thrift and used bookstores for the rest of the books, and ended up buying the large trade paperbacks and the Outlandish Companion on Amazon. I'm now partway though The Fiery Cross, and I must admit I've never felt teary-eyed/emotional over book characters before I met Claire, Jamie, Bree, and Roger. I've sent on the recommendation to my younger daughter and an online friend who are both now hooked on the series. I just love discovering authors after they have a good number of books in print, and I can just drown myself in them, instead of waiting impatiently for the next one to be published. For An Echo in the Bone to be so close on the heels of the ones I'm reading is a true blessing. Long live DG's imagination!

When i was a teenager I remember my mom reading these books, but never understood why she liked them soo much. Well now I'm 25 and decided to read a book. ( these are the first books I've actually read)So one day I picked up Dragonfly in Amber and read the first chapter....my mother said that it wasn't the first book (how was I suppose to know?)so she went out and bought it for me. I have read all the books and am anxiously awaiting the seventh. I can't wait for the movie. I belong to a book club and for the month of Feb. we decided on Outlander, it being a romantic novel. I have been to many book club discussions but this one was definitatly the livliest. We all declared our love for Jamie. DG is a wonderful writer.

Hallooo to all you lovely Lallybroch ladies out there - I only wish I'd found this series earlier (the first book was in a list of Australia's top 100 loved books) Please excuse me for saying that when I read the first book I laughingly told my girls it was my first 'bodice ripper', but that joke NO LONGER STANDS! It was also my first real romance novel. The Time Travellers Wife was great, but nothing compares to the Outlander series to me now.

I'm so happy to be a part of this clan. I'm currently experiencing huge withdrawals of the Outlander books (The last two got me through a very bad toothache !)And I am looking at the recommended booklists - can anyone tell me if the Lord John series is similar to the Outlander ones? Or a great scottish one that is unput-downable? I slugged through half of one about Boedica but it just didn't get me in - maybe it didn't have enough romance......

A big thank you to our most revered authoress for not only giving me hours of pleasure but also teaching me a lot of Scottish history. My husband is descended from Scotland and our last name is Leckie. I believe there is a town in Scotland called Leckie, but cannot find much about it.

Hi there! I'm Carmela, I'm 26 and from Texas. I'm re-reading the series (it's only my 2nd run through) and I'm currently halfway through Dragonfly in Amber. I got the audio versions of the remaining so I'm looking forward to having those on my ipod so I can listen to them while I workout. (Maybe thinking of Jamie will get my heart really a-pumping and work off some extra calories??? haha)

I'm hoping to get through the books again before An Echo in the Bone comes out so it'll be "fresh" on my mind.

I just discovered the Outlander series a couple of months ago and have read all of them and am now listening to the unabridged audiobook. All my poor DH has seen of me lately is with my head buried in a book! He's not complaining about how **frisky** I am when I do put the book down and notice him again!! This website is great - what a relief to know that there are so many others who feel the same way I do about Jamie and Claire.

I just finished reading "Outlander" for the first time...and let me tell you, I am hooked! A friend kept telling me to read them, and when I finally picked it up, I couldn't put it down! (I'm sure many of you know the feeling). I promptly went out and bought the rest of the series...and I can't wait to get started on the next one!
