Subject: 'Lo, all

I'm new, obviously. First read Outlander when I was sixteen, having found a copy at a thrift store for a dollar. Best dollar I ever spent, even though it lead it to several more dollars being spent on the rest of the series. It didn't even occur to me for some time that I might get odd looks for reading them, and then only because the mother of a friend saw me with the book and said "Isn't that more of a girls' book?" I told her no, because there weren't very many girls that I knew of who would like stories with blood and fighting in them, even fewer who would be interested in books that took place in the eighteenth century. You must understand, I went to high school in a very rural area. The local kids' idea of fun on a Saturday night consisted of getting drunk and trying to go cow-tipping (which doesn't work by the way, since cows don't actually sleep). Another favourite was stealing mailboxes and road signs. Point being, most of the girls I knew in high school were rather like Laoghaire, and as such probably wouldn't like the Outlander series, most likely because it requires reading.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, hopefully I'm not the only male. If I am, ah well.
