Subject: Intro of a tall red-heided braw lass, er, woman.

Hello all!
An acquaintance introduced me to Outlander by shoving her copy into my hand and insisting I borrow it, and that book became the reason dishes and laundry started piling up at my house. I'm currently just begun Fiery Cross, but am a little nervous about reading things here lest I stumble upon spoilers.
This did pique my interest in my MacLeod heritage, and by an odd coincidence, I seem to have a lot in common with the description of Bree... very tall, and at the age Bree is in Fiery Cross, my red hair was waist-length also. My husband reminds me a bit of Roger, except my husband is short. He doesn't remind me as much of Jamie, and I think many of us wish we could encourage the liberation of that brand of controlled-yet-primal masculinity in our DHs, but recognize that it will take some doing to bring it back into vogue, especially with the current popularity of feminized males. Just my opinion, but I think men and women all got the shaft when it became politically incorrect for men to act like men, and for women to like them that way.

And that's one reason why I think Jamie strikes a chord with so many women, because we see in him the forbidden fruit of authentic manhood in a barren wasteland of deprivation and gender neutrality.

Ok this is becoming a novel of its own, so I am a 34 yo wife and mother of a 3 yo DD and a 4 month-old DS, living in the howling Northeast and loving it (except I wish we could be at a higher elevation, never liked sea level much), and am now, because of these books, interested in my MacLeod roots and want to attend the Highland Games this summer.

Do women primarily read these books, or do they appeal to men as well? Just wondering how many of us *wish* our DHs would give them a try, or how many have tried, whose DHs ended up being fans too?

• Hi Meg and welcome to Lallybraoch. My husband has listened to all the Outlander books on audio. He liked them a lot and it is fun to talk to him about certain scenes.
