Subject: A question about the acknowledgments in ABOSAA

Hello there everyone, I have a question? In the Acknowledgments of ABOSAA, Diana Gabaldon mentions Reverend Jay McMillan on page viii paragraph 2. I happen to know a Reverend Jay McMillan of Wheeling West Virgina. He and I were in the same Celtic Society before I moved to New York. This past summer I visited home and went to a Wheeling Celtic Society meeting with my friend and we saw Reverend McMillan there so (me being a huge fan since 2000) I asked him if he was the one he mentioned in the acknowledgments. He said that she contacted him and he gave her alot of information and that she sent him a signed copy of the book after it was released. He knows that I am a die hard fan of hers so I asked him why he didn't call me or save the book for me. He said that he thought her books are very smutty and he threw it away. Needless to say I was outraged and I think that perhaps he was lying to me about being the person mentioned in the acknowledgements. I was wondering if any of you knew for certain what Reverend Jay mcMillian she was refering to. The Reverend McMillian I know would have no reason to throw her book away. At the meeting I attended this summer, he is newly divorced and asked my friend if she was still married (she has been married for 30 years) and he proceded to tell us all a story about a dream he had involving a woman and a black bikini and a bothy in Scotland!!! I didn't ask for the details. (I was just upset that he would throw a Diana Gabaldon book away because he considered it smutt but would then ask a married woman if she was still married and as a man of the cloth would tell us about his dreams of a bikini clad woman) I am such a huge fan that it just really burned me up that Ms. Gabaldon would be nice enough to acknowledge him in her book and he would go on to be so nasty about her books. So I am just wondering if anyone knows exactly who that is that she mentioned in her book. I have a funny feeling that he was lying to me.

Thanks so much. I think you ladies are wonderful...
Erin
