• Try Eugenia Price's Savannah, the first of four books set in, of all places, Savannah, as is Savannah Grey: A Tale of Antebellum Georgia by Jim Jordan. I remember reading Savannah many years ago; the other I have not read, but the reviews on Amazon look good. Check your library for them, the prices on Amazon are outrageous. Hope this helps!   • Many years ago, my mother was obsessed with the Eugenia Price books. We even vacationed on Jekyll Island one year so we could tromp through the cemeteries at St. Simon's Island. • "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil" by John Berendt is a non-fiction novel about a murder in Savannah in about 1980. But.... there is loads of local history and he takes you back in time to the early 1900's and into the nineteenth century. The book is loaded with atmosphere, detail and eccentric characters --to put it mildly-- and Savannah history. It's very dark in spots, but also side-splittingly hysterically funny. • Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill. It's a book about a slave and the time period is late 1700's, but some of the story takes place in Charleston and Savannah.
