I think Charlaine Harris is bringing this series to it's close in a way that is true to Sookie's character throughout. She and Eric are in love, but that love is in serious trouble. Does Eric really love her? Above power and position? Can love overcome fundamental differences in values? Is Eric's love stronger than Bill's? Sookie has always said she doesn't want to be a vampire, she wants a human life. Here we see her wistful over children and family. What and who will be her ultimate choice? I see one sentence in the book that make me think I know the answer. It really is Sookie's story.
