Subject: I had this same reaction and even posted about it a few months ago. I enjoyed their story, but got tired of all the characters and battle scenes. I kept up with it because I wanted to know what happened to them, but won't read anymore of the series because of what you mentioned.

  • Jumping in here. The entire trilogy is well worth reading, but keep in mind this is historical fiction not historical romance. It is the complete story of the people in that era and she sticks to total historical accuracy. Many of her most fervent fans are men and they want more battles and less sex. So, you can't please everyone, but she tries for a good balance. Of all her work, I do believe that the Welsh Trilogy is perhaps the most deeply emotional and the closest to what fans of DG would enjoy reading most. (NT) -- Valerie L., 07:23:50 11/02/10 Tue

  • VERY good point, Valerie. I had not thought of it like that..historical fiction vs. historical romance. Makes much more sense now. Thanks. (NT) -- conmama, 07:51:35 11/02/10 Tue

  • And this is why I consider the Outlander Series to be 'Romance Novels' and don't understand the kerfuffle about bookstores that shelve them in that section. That controversy is --to me-- about as earthshaking as the day Mia Farrow cut her hair; or the day Dylan went electric at the Newport Folk Festival. (I know, I'm dating myself here. Google it, kiddies.) (NT) -- Lemora, 21:17:46 01/01/11 Sat
