Subject: Valley Forge by Newt Gingrich and William Fortchen

No politics, just a well-written, rich story about the hardships and victory of the American Army at Valley Forge the winter of 1777-78. This is a novel, so we see a very human George Washington, Baron von Steuben, General Gates, General Lee, and someone we know fom Echo, John Andre, is a major character. It also parallels Echo in the occupation of Philadelphia by the British. The story alternates beween the American and British characters' perspectives, but the bias is obviously toward the American cause. The book brings history to life. I particularly enjoyed that it includes the battle of Monmouth, which was fought where I grew up - I finally "get" what happened there.
