Subject: Just started Laurell K. Hamilton's A Kiss of Shadows

I just can't help it. The back cover doesn't do much to impress me.

It makes it sound like she's supposed to have sex with a whole bunch of guys until she's pregnant. That's just a HUGE turn off.

If someone can just tell me that that's not the case and I can keep reading this.

Ok, I will go on. My problem is the sex without love part. I am used to a romance in my books.. Well, you know how even in the Fever series you just had this feeling there was a romance lurking around the corner, but didn't know if it would be V'Lane or Barrons or maybe Christian, but you KNEW it was there?? - Actually though, both Merry and Anita do love all their lovers. Just in a different way than we usually think, you have to wrap your head around it. Funny how we can just accept that faieries or vampires or whatever exist - ok this is the world of the book - but we are stuck on the one love, one lover rule. Not saying I could do what they do (yeah, just give me than chance...*leer*) but that's the 'norm' for them, especially the Anita Blake, so roll with it and have fun.   - That's true, some really great relationships develop over time. But there is a lot of sex going on with a lot of others too. LKH's characters gain power through sex.
