Subject: Pillars of the Earth TV series

Sorry, this is probably the wrong place to talk about TV, but I was wondering if anyone is watching this series. I know there are some differences from the book, but I quite like the show. I like how the show started with the ship wreck, so we know from the beginning that Henry's only male heir is killed.

It's asking for money, then it wants me to tell them who my internet provider is and I'm to choose from a list, which doesn't include the UK provider I use.     - How unfortunate. IMHO, the television series is an exceptionally well done adaptation of the book and I am not disappointed as big a fan of the book as I am. I am delighted to see it on the screen and am enjoying it thoroughly. Were the story not adapted, the televsion series would have to have been 30 hours long rather than 8. And I did do a re-read last month to freshen up my memory. I tried to read Pillars and found it a terrible slog. I'm a bit more than 1/3 way through but I doubt I'll finish it. It just seems to be one side gains power, then the other, then back again - and you know how it will end. Throw in some formula nasty tricks, a little brutality and a (not very IMO good) rape scene and a couple of true kind hearts and that sums up the book. - You know Jayn, you and I have very, very similar tastes in books. I actually made it 75% thru and couldn't understand what the fuss was about. We also had the same feelings about Dragons Be gone, or done or something like that. If you would like some "lighter" funnier reading, have you tried Marion Keyes? - I basically forced myself to finish the book, well at least I pushed my way half way through when I couldn't stop just for the sake of completing what I started. The story had some interesting points, but I never cared much about the characters and that's what I enjoy most about books. Maybe the series will be better. I have the second book, brand new on my shelf (purchased prior to reading the first) and I don't know if it will ever be read. I'm enjoying the series. I think its a decent adaptation, though not crazy of the casting. None of those people look like the characters in my head, except I love Matthew Macfadyn as Prior Phillip...he's perfect. Aliena is fine. But all in all, the story is done well.
