Subject: I basically forced myself to finish the book, well at least I pushed my way half way through when I couldn't stop just for the sake of completing what I started. The story had some interesting points, but I never cared much about the characters and that's what I enjoy most about books. Maybe the series will be better. I have the second book, brand new on my shelf (purchased prior to reading the first) and I don't know if it will ever be read. If the book being mentioned above is 'Here Be Dragons' - I did enjoy that a lot - imho, the characters are very well written and the dialogue is engaging.
In reply to: jayn 's message, "I tried to read Pillars and found it a terrible slog. I'm a bit more than 1/3 way through but I doubt I'll finish it. It just seems to be one side gains power, then the other, then back again - and you know how it will end. Throw in some formula nasty tricks, a little brutality and a (not very IMO good) rape scene and a couple of true kind hearts and that sums up the book. I know a lot of you liked it but, sorry, not me." on 07:24:50 08/09/10 Mon
