Subject: One of my favorite topics: TKAM has been mentioned so much, so I won't mention it. I would say, "The Mists of Avalon," by Marion Zimmer Bradley; "The Great Gatsby," by F. Scott Fitzgerald; and..... "West With The Night" by Beryl Markham. (This is an acknowledged classic, and beautifully written. BM was a licensed mail delivery pilot, flying routes over Africa in the 1920's. She was raised on a coffee plantation in Kenya, cut school to hunt with the Masai, and raised a lot of Hell among the 'White Mischief' types. She also was the first solo pilot to fly from Europe to North America, setting a record, reversing Lindbergh's trip.) This was hard, boiling it down.

  • I'd say A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown. Not necessarily my favourites or the easiest to read, but books which I think deal with important subjects. (NT) -- Em, 13:55:48 09/17/10 Fri

  • Blimey Em! You read my mind. Same three books for me, plus the Bronze Horseman (NT) -- albion, 11:46:31 09/18/10 Sat
