Subject: The Devil's Queen (A Novel of Catherine de Medici) by Jeanne Kalogridis AND The Tenth Circle, by Jodi Picoult

The Devil's Queen Picked this one up on a whim and I'm glad I did! It follows the life of Catherine (Caterina) de Medici of Florence, Italy from the time of the fall of Florence through her marraige to the Dauphin of France and her subsequent rise in power. It reminded me a lot of "The Other Boleyn Girl" (takes place during the same time period). It's a bit slow getting into, but well-worth the read.

The Tenth Circle I admit, I've had this one laying around for a while and just couldn't be bothered with it. I wanted something new to bring with me to work (I usually read when I go to lunch) and this was the closest thing. I read it in two days. It's a story about a young girl, Trixie, and her family as they (almost literally, as Picoult relies heavily on Dante) go through hell and back in the aftermath of Trixie's first relationship and a violent crime that devestates them all. One of the best stories I've ever read.
