I'm interested to hear all your comments, because as a Brit who has read the book, I am really disappointed that the actors aren't British and it seems that the plot has been 'messed about' with. I think the only film adaptation of a book I really liked was LOTR which was excellent. -- LOL Reading Recommendation Board

I'm back - I saw it. And it was okay. I actually liked the tweaks they made to the story (for the most part), but, as I stated above, I'm not a huge fan of the book... Some parts of the movie were kind of laughable though - such as Mary's "disappearing" husband. (I wouldn't have minded seeing more of the always-excellent Benedict Cumberbatch.) And I think I would have screamed had they shot any more scenes of horse riding, clouds passing by over manor houses, and/or conversations shot through wooden screens or doorways. Katherine of Aragon was awesome, though. I almost wished the story had been told from her perspective. She commanded the few short scenes she was in. (NT) -- Lynn H., 20:24:14 03/14/08 Fri

I didn't really like the book either, but I thought it might be one of those instances where a mediocre book can actually be turned into quite a good film. Too bad, sounds like that was not the case! I will still probably see it when it comes on DVD. I'll see pretty much anything Tudor too! But I still remember Genevieve Bujold in Anne of a Thousand Days -- that was wonderful! - Pamelalass, I only saw the second half of Anne of a Thousand Days, but I remember enjoying it. There was also another Tudor film from roughly the same era that I thought was pretty good. It was about the relationship between Queen Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of Scots. I seem to remember either Vanessa or Lynn Redgrave as Elizabeth, and Timothy Dalton as Mary's husband, Lord Darnley.   - Ah, I just found an article about it on Wikipedia HERE. The movie was called Mary, Queen of Scots - and, strangely enough, the bottom of the article says it is being remade, starring Scarlett Johannson as Mary!
