Replies:

[> (B) As a Pollsketeer, I'll start it off. I liked thier marriage for many reasons. Outlander to me is still the best of the series by far. Plus, I never liked Frank-right from the beginning he rubbed me the wrong way, and I thought he treated Claire like a child. I like her marriage to Jamie as it was unconvential (he being the virgin), I enjoyed how they came to know each other, and we later find out he married her because he loved her. Plus, I think she may have loved him, but was unwilling to admit it to herself at this point. Second would be Ians return-I just love his character and was happy when he came back. He is astute and, I think, can read into things that are not necessarily so obvious. He is sharp-but deceptively so. -- Rollaine, 14:03:06 01/17/10 Sun

[> [> (B) Jamie and Claire's marriage. No contest. "Outlander" is heads and shoulders above the rest of the series. For me, also, it could've been a stand-alone book, and I'd have been content. Either that or limit the series to three books, get J&C back together again, and end Voyager right there with the reunion. I better not say any more. -- Lemora, 14:01:47 01/19/10 Tue

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> I agree Lemora...except that I hate the 20 year separation (I would not, could not have ever left my DH. To ask that of me would be to ask me not to live). But, since she did leave, start with the reunion in Voayger, and end with them starting new in America. I could live with that :-). Voayger is my least favorite-mostly because of the first 1/2. Guess I better be quiet, too! -- Rollaine, 16:00:33 01/19/10 Tue

[> I pick Ian's return. It was definately my scream with glee moment in the books. -- Connee, 14:03:43 01/17/10 Sun

[> [> That would be my second...I love his character. Probably my favorite next J&C. I like him as much as Roger and Bree and was so happy he was back. I think he adds a lot to the story. -- Rollaine, 14:13:45 01/17/10 Sun

[> (D) I can just imagine how Claire felt just before she walked into Jamie's printshop. Talk about nervous! And then to see him again after 20 years -- Lady Grey, 14:33:42 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D, the Jamie/Claire reunion. There is so much to that, all the pain and loss they've suffered, and all the dreams and hope and love they've held; with all respect for other opinions I cannot honestly see any other one put ahead of this (I repeat, with all respect for your choice if it's different). My second is H, the return of Ian, just at the right moment and the pure joy of it - not to mention it helps put the final piece of Jamie/Roger together. -- jayn, 14:51:51 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> For me, it is the first time they married for the reasons stated above and one other: I actually could not stand Frank at all in the beginning, so much so that I almost returned the book to the library. I thought, geez, why is she putting up with this guy and when is something going to happen! Then we meet Jamie and it was clear from the outset they had a special connection. I love thier marriage, the newness, getting to know each other and I seriously think she loved him then, but was afraid to admit it because of what it would mean. And, we now know he loved her from the very start. Given my sarcastic and very cynical nature, I am a romantic at heart :-). And well, maybe because on the 21st of this month, I will know my husdand for 28 years and I'm thinking of our beginnings and the newness of our relationship. -- Rollaine, 15:40:42 01/17/10 Sun

[> (D- The reunion in the printshop) I think Jamie's reaction is just precious- he faints! -- Lady Stormwing, 14:52:20 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> (D) I could read that reunion scene over and over.... Second choice is (I). I've just loved that Roger and Bree went to live at Lallybroch!!! -- DianeClaire, 14:56:58 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D for much the same reasons already posted. C and J belong together. For Claire, she truly starts to live again when she finds Jamie and he takes her back. -- Tamdhu, 15:12:06 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> (B) To me it's all about Jamie and Claire. The way they met, the way they learned about each other, the way they learned to love each other, and how that love grew. OK, I'm a hopeless romantic. The reunion (D) runs a close second. -- CarolSR, 16:04:42 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> (E) Of course I love B and really enjoyed D, but when they arrive at the Ridge I love how they work so hard together. It really seemed like a solid beginning for the rest of their lives. It is a true beginning for them - no Lallybroch, no stone circles nearby. Just virgin land and hopes for peace. I'd love to believe they find peace there. -- MonicaW, 16:27:36 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> H - finally the whole family is together, past misunderstandings have been atoned for and they can live normally for a while. Everyone take a deep breath and relax! -- kgp, 16:43:05 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D,D,D,D,D,D,D. So, how do you think I really fell about Claire and Jamie's reunion? Without that, we wouldn't have DOA-Echo and so much wonderful, lovely, storytelling. Did I sday D? -- TerriC, 16:46:06 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D. The triumph of love and hope over practicality. It was one thing to walk through the stones accidently; quite another to knowingly walk away from a normal, modern life with only the hope of a new one waiting for you. It was incredibly courageous. -- Stargove, 16:53:32 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D. No doubt for me. As Stargove said, it was courageous of Claire, my heart was beating fast--scared for her, what she would find--would Jamie be married? Not love her anymore? The reunion was so perfect--well, at first. The first read of it was the best, without the knowledge of Jamie's marriage to Leghaire. Even so, I love it on re-read. 2nd is Jamie and Claire's original "courtship" in Outlander-- that neither of them acknowledged they were having. Great question. -- AnneJ, 17:29:26 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D, with H as a close runner up. I loved Ian's return so much. -- Jayne Johnson, 17:38:23 01/17/10 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> D. I had to think about this for little while and I decided to go with D because I wanted them to be back together so much. My second choice was B because even though it was the beginning of Claire and Jamie together I wasn't thinking about them getting married but so happy when they did. And if it weren't for B I would never have hoped for D so much. -- LisaW, 19:05:03 01/17/10 Sun

[> [> Depends on how you see it :-). While I liked the reunion, I can't say I loved it. For me, I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was something lacking about it-for me, not for everyone. Plus, Voyager is my least favorite right now of the series, so it is hard for me to get into the story. Outlander is, IMHO, the best of the series. And I know I should leave the country now, but sometimes I wish there was only Outlander. Not that I don't like the others, it's just that there are things that happened I just don't get -and I'll leave it at that. -- Rollaine, 08:53:46 01/18/10 Mon

[> [> [> I don't think there is anything that could compare to thinking someone is dead for 20 years and then finding out they aren't. I bet everyone can think of one person they wish could return from the dead - it's something miraculous and, to me, is the best possible reunion. JMHO. :) -- Judie, 12:57:54 01/18/10 Mon

[> [> [> [> I understand all that...I don't hate it. Like I said, there is just something that left me feeling that I wanted more...can't quite place it. Oh, well, I guess we each have our favorites. I am certainly glad they found each other again, but I guess for me...I would not and could not have ever left in the first place-it owuld be asking too much of me. Maybe that's it? I have no clue, but again, I do like the reunion-its just not my 1st pick :-). -- Rollaine, 14:04:39 01/18/10 Mon

[> [> [> [> [> I know what you mean about wanting "more" re: the Reunion scene in Edinburgh. He faints, they talk, and he runs off (with her) to attend to business. I guess I wanted a "tear off their clothes and get down to 20 years of lost time" RIGHT AWAY. That's what I was looking for. -- Cara, 19:15:02 01/18/10 Mon

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> [> [> [> I also wanted more from this scene. Claire had time to about their reunion while Jamie was so shocked. What if he had been married with kids? Would she have barged in on them? I would have done more observing, made more inquiries and sent him a note stating what inn I could be found in to to give him time to digest the surprise. -- MonicaW, 08:35:00 01/19/10 Tue

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> For me, the reunion scene went south when Jamie asked her why she came back (at the printshop) and she did NOT say: "Because for twenty years I've never stopped loving you! I only looked at Frank's research two years ago, showing that you had survived Culloden, because for years it was too painful to even contemplate. Our daughter is grown, she knows about you, and I knew I had to take a chance you were still alive and return. So, here I am!" After this, with the foot fetishist, serial killer, et al, Diana jumped the shark. For me, at least. -- Lemora, 16:47:27 01/19/10 Tue

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> [> OK-that's it! That's exactly what I wanted! You put your finger on it...he asked why she came back and her response was I thought you were dead. I wanted to shout EXACTLY word for word what you just wrote Lemora! I know they don't constantly say they love each other-but I mean they haven't seen each other for 20 years? What you just wrote, literally took the words right out of my keyboard :-)! -- Rollaine, 17:48:40 01/19/10 Tue

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> [> [> D is my choice, and Lemora, you certainly brought up a very valid point. Jamie does say "I burned for you for twenty years" (which I find incredibly heartbreaking *tears*) and Claire says nothing remotely close to that... she longed for him for twenty years, so why not let him know? -- ladyphantom, 14:25:56 01/20/10 Wed

[> [> [> [> [> [> I understand the point you all are making, but Claire's presence alone spoke volumes. By coming back to Jamie, she had given up her whole life, including their child, and Jamie knew it. She may not have spoken eloquently but Jamie knew. -- DawnW., 16:31:56 01/21/10 Thu

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> I get what you are saying, too. But for me, the fact that she said nothing was kind of a let down for me. Like I said, I didn't hate it, but because of that, it's just not my favorite (and niether is Voyager, which plays a part in it, too). I wanted more, and I feel like something was missing and for me, Lemora put her finger right on it. -- Rollaine, 17:26:56 01/21/10 Thu

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> [> [> [> Thats perfect Lemora. I also remember feeling deflated at Claire's 'I thought you were dead' answer. It just seemed too brief and offhand for the situation. IMO, if it had been followed by your words, it would have given the scene more impact. Many comment that sometimes Jamie's sweet words sound more like what a woman would want a guy to say than how men really talk - in this case Claire's bluntness sounds more like a man taking the drama and detail out of a moment. -- HollyC, 05:42:36 01/21/10 Thu

[> I have to go with Jamie & Claire's reunion (D) and second what Stargove said. Ian's return is a close second--I love Ian! -- WeeWelshLass, 06:13:40 01/18/10 Mon

[> D, followed by F -- Alison CL, 06:44:43 01/18/10 Mon

Their first reunion is the stuff dream are made of. Claire risked it all, a life knowing her daughter, her career, mordern amenities, to go back to Jamie, not knowing if he loved her still, was married, had more children... and everything that went along with it. The scene where they go back to Lallybroch and Jenny contacts Laoghire... I had to pull over on the side of the road and read until I was content!!!!
Jamie meeting Bre is my second. His love of her childhood pictures, and then actually meeting her face to face... just wonderful!

[ Edit | View ]

[> D. I read that until I almost had it memorized. My second vote would be (H) when Ian returns. -- AngieLass, 07:43:41 01/18/10 Mon

[> D for sure!! I have that passage bookmarked on my Kindle. It says it all to me.....the doubts, the trepidation, the longing, and the absolute love. So well written. Voyager is one of my favorites along with ABOSAA -- SheltieLass, 08:31:07 01/18/10 Mon

[ Edit | View ]

[> B although D comes in at a very close second. I always tell someone new to the books that they have to read until about page 250 which is where Jamie and Claire get married and the book takes off. It is also where you begin to realize that this book is not a run of the mill romance. -- Lady Beth, 09:18:11 01/18/10 Mon

[ Edit | View ]

[> (H). I picked this because, for the first time, Jamie and Claire had it all. They had their daughter, her husband, grandchildren, nephew (that was so dearly and achingly missed), a home, a community, and it seemed like "Ahhh, now everything's right" and they could take whatever life may throw at them, like they always do, but with a comfort in their hearts because they are all together. It just made it right for me, I felt incomplete without Ian. -- Lisa L., 10:11:01 01/18/10 Mon

[> New Beginnings -- AJ, 11:01:24 01/18/10 Mon

Tie between B and D. I tend to be more partial to everything about Jamie and Claire in the first book, but their reunion in Voyager was very well done and I can read it again and again.

[ Edit | View ]

[> B -The marriage. Jamie's innocence at going for what he wanted! Then D the Voyager reunion because you felt the loss they both had experienced and knowing it was at an end..just thinking about that kind of love..ooh....and Honorable mention was H Ians homecoming. He is probably my most favorite character behind J&C. -- AlysL, 11:33:44 01/18/10 Mon

[> Jx3 The new beginning at the Abbey as the demons of Wentworth prison were fought down. Second J. as Jamie and Claire re-establish their relationship after the miscarriage and King Louis episode. I'm going for D H I in that order my fav part of vogager is clair's return and Jamie sits in the pot(liqud) and thought he'd wet himself.
Ian's return always makes me cry
and love the fact there back at Lallybroch, its like the house needed to be loved agin.

[> J. Even more than their marriage in Outlander, I love the scene when Claire decides not to return through the stones and goes down to the little cottage to find Jamie sleeping there, thinking he's lost her. That reunion, when they are both almost giddy with realizing they are still together, and their subsequent departure for Lallybroch stand out as such a happy, hopeful time. -- HollyC, 06:08:52 01/19/10 Tue

[> (J) Jamie was lost to Claire after rescued from Wentworth. At the Abbey he even told her he couldn't be a husband to her. With her unorthodox method of healing she rescued him again - she gave him back his soul, his sanity, his health AND his manhood. The scene in the pool under the abbey was soo moving for me. A real "new beginning". Coming close would be (F). Jamie had lost Bree's photos at sea and Claire surely thought she would never see their daughter again and that Jamie would never see her. I didn't expect Bree to travel back and when we first see her I wanted her to hurry along, quit all the side adventures, and get to Jamie and Claire. When he meets her after relieving himself by the tree and Jamie thinks she "hooking" is so funny. He has a wife nearby at home, too, he tells her. I laughed and cried. -- Cara, 10:50:55 01/19/10 Tue
