yes, that's true and especially if they had been bought by horrible people, but while living during the time of slaver, Phaedre's life was comparably "good." But the fact that Ulysses, a slave himself, would sell her-to protect his white mistress and self when she hadn't done anything wrong (in my eyes) well, that burns me up. Claire also ruminates on this characteristic after hearing the story of the Cameron's flight after Culloden and rather admires Jo for that strength. As for Phaedre not being ill treated, she was kept as an uneducated slave.
