Subject: Carol, it is always so good to see your posts! You did a great job of capturing the simple complexity of these books. I know that sounds like an oxymoron but it's true--they are complex in a simple way or maybe the other way around. I had a visceral reaction to the beating scene, too, but I kept reading. I was just so disappointed. Then I reread and realized it made sense. You worded it more eloquently--savoring details, deceptively simple yet poetical. Nicely done.
In reply to: Carol P 's message, "Oh my, I don't know when the addiction started, but I know the exact moment when I recognized I was hooked. I bought Outlander because it's a big fat book. I read in one sitting, turning pages as fast as I could, congratulating myself on finding a story about good guys and bad guys ( I really don't like stories that tolerate or glorify evil). Then Jamie whaled the living daylights out of Claire and I threw the book against the wall and walked away. I've never had a physical reaction to a book before. Long, inside>>>>>" on 16:42:01 08/31/09 Mon
