[> G. Without a doubt, when Claire says that to Jamie, it is my favorite line in the entire series. That whole chapter is my favorite-so beautiful. -- Rollaine, 19:34:36 11/08/08 Sat

[> I'm going with H. For some reason, it brings to mind the ghost in Outlander. Maybe it was that image of Claire that send Jamie's ghost looking for her. my second choice is "K"... that would be the fireside scene where Jamie has mmph-ing with me! I can see the sweat glistening on his back and......oh no, thuddd..... medic! -- Reelgael, 19:51:49 11/08/08 Sat

[> G. I agree that this is one of my favorite chapters in all the books…although I must say that the scene with Jenny describing what it is like to be pregnant is a close second….And I also shouted for Joy when Jamie called Roger the Son of His House!!….But I am a romantic at heart, and I will not deny that the love and intimacy that Jamie and Claire share is what brings me back to read these books time and time again…..And when Jamie asks…Will it ever stop??? My answer is NO, Pray God, I hope it will go on forever!!! -- Mitzi, 20:31:59 11/08/08 Sat

[> C - it's such a sweet moment, all the more so as they will be heading for war soon. It's a small moment and I love how natural it is. -- kgp, 04:00:00 11/09/08 Sun

[> G - I just love that whole chapter! One of my favorites in the entire series. -- Karen Henry, 05:02:09 11/09/08 Sun

[> G. Heartfire scene, followed very closely by the scene in DRUMS with Roger standing naked in front of the fire while Brianna looks at his body for the 1st time in the light. -- Tess, 06:17:39 11/09/08 Sun

[> K. I love the scene where Claire is mending socks and "toasting" her toes, alone in the house, just before she finds Jamie with his injured back. It just sticks in my mind because it was so cold outside and Claire was so cozy. -- shy gal, 08:02:09 11/09/08 Sun

[> F. This moment is so full of drama for me. It speaks of greatness, of men rising to protect home and family, of acceptance. It's so full of the heroic warrior elements that it gives me chills. Other scenes are moving too, for different reasons. I'm always reminded that the human body looks best when gently lit by firelight. -- Melina, 08:27:57 11/09/08 Sun

[> H. This scene has been and will always be one of my favorites. -- MiladyM, 08:34:50 11/09/08 Sun

[> H is my definite choise. The short time in Lallybroch before the blo**y rising thing is one of my favourite passages. And by urging Jenny to grow potatoes Claire helped the people of Lallybroch to survive. -- Helka, 09:03:00 11/09/08 Sun

[ Edit | View ]

[> H) and K) That scene when Jamie (?) organised "potato party", where all people were eating "tatties" and so learned to survive from hunger. K) that scene, where Jamie and Claire are with Jamie's men somewhere in the moors, the men having camp fire and Jamie making love to C, saying "wet as waterweed" or something like that. There definitely was warmer that having just a camp fire. I do not remember in which book/chapter this scene takes place. -- Margit, 11:44:54 11/09/08 Sun

[> H - This is a tough one. I am going with H as I did this so much when my DH would get ready to deplo for 6 mos or more. I would "store him in my memory" G was my very close second -- SheltieLass, 14:38:44 11/09/08 Sun

[> E for me. In this group of choices, this is the one that stands out as a favourite fireside scene - I can visual this vividly. -- Janelle N, 15:59:31 11/09/08 Sun

[> E. The sword dance - This is such a poignant, touching scene for me. It symbolizes all that is past and will never come again. Jaime is so lonely at times like this, and this scene has always stayed with me. It's also such a beautifully painted picture - Jaime dancing alone in the firelight, not only physically but emotionally alone. -- jayne, 16:06:19 11/09/08 Sun

[> F, because Roger finally knows that Jamie has accepted him. While the other scenes were wonderful, Jamie calling to Roger to stand by his side sent goosebumps all over me, and I was truly bursting with pride for Roger. -- KimL, 17:16:18 11/09/08 Sun

[> E. This scene intruged me and I had to find a clip of this dance on the internet. -- LadyGrace, 17:49:04 11/09/08 Sun

[> K. Other: In "Outlander", after Jamie rescues Claire from the mob in Crainsmuir, and they've settled in, roasted rabbits on the fire, and Claire tells Jamie --when he asks her if she really is a witch-- who she really is and where she is from. -- Lemora, 01:59:08 11/10/08 Mon

[ Edit | View ]

[> [> I have to agree with you Lemora! I was going to vote for G until I saw your response. I have to say though, the reason why I like this scene is Claire realising that she could share with Jamie, her beloved husband, the man she trusted above all others, all her secretes, and Jamie believing in Claire and holding her no matter who she was or how old she was! -- Chrissylass, 02:24:39 11/10/08 Mon

[> [> oh, that is a good one Lemora! I do love that line when he tells her that it would have been easier if she'd just been a witch. -- susiej, 09:37:28 11/10/08 Mon

[> H. I wish they had had time for more moments like this at Lallybroch - so bittersweet, knowing what is to come. Are they by a fire when Jamie and Ian find out Claire doesn't know how to 'clicket'? If so, that would be my K/other choice. -- HollyC, 13:18:43 11/10/08 Mon

[> [> In the evening after they go fishing? That is such a killer emotion scene - that he can't acknowledge Willie as his own - good choice! -- HollyC, 13:59:18 11/11/08 Tue

[> [> [> Yes, after they go fishing. To date the most conversation they have had with each other. Emotionally charged for Jamie and draining for me because I felt so badly for him not being able to acknowledge Willie, but so happy that he was getting this chance. -- MicheleF, 15:59:31 11/11/08 Tue

[> C. but I'm torn between that one and H. But what I love so much about the potatoe scene is how wee Jamie climbs in her lap and she is so tender with him. I always love those moments at Lallybroch. -- LisaW, 20:17:12 11/10/08 Mon

[> F. A real close second was H & E, but ultimately, most memorable to me was Jamie publicly acknowledging his full acceptance of Roger as family. -- Cathryn_L, 12:08:06 11/13/08 Thu

[ Edit | View ]

[> F. It pained me that Jamie was so reluctant to accept Roger. It's hard for me, not having children, to understand the difficulty of a parent learning to accept her/his child growing up and finding love, and I know that Jamie very much regrets that he lost Bree's childhood. Because of that, it's a really powerful moment when he calls Roger. That said, G is certainly a close second for me! -- Woogie, 08:44:30 11/14/08 Fri

[> H. I've always wanted a man to talk that way to me. : ) I actually had a hard time choosing because all the family scenes with fires are so important. What about the first fire on Fraser's Ridge? -- LadyBelle, 06:44:15 11/15/08 Sat

[ Edit | View ]

[> H. I first thought of this one when I saw the question. Very special scene. I also like Michele's pick of Jamie and Willie around the fire. Another good one is Jamie with the Indians recounting how many men he had killed. That was spooky! -- Lady JenF, 14:46:45 11/15/08 Sat

[> I need to do a re-read, but I'll pick A. Comfy and cozy times - wish they'd always stayed at Lallybroch. But then the story would be different. :D Hey - love your graphic! -- Judie, 15:31:57 11/15/08 Sat

[> K. When LegHair shot Jamie and then Claire (w/Ian) came back to care for him, I believe he was lying on a cot before the fire... apparently dying... until Claire used her penicillin. This was an intense time for them and beautifully written! -- Dark Angel, 20:28:45 11/15/08 Sat

[> What about the scene just after Claire and Jamie are married. Murtagh was singing and telling stories. I don't know why but I really like that scene, before the battle breaks out, of course. -- Hannah, 21:03:11 11/30/08 Sun

Alot of good fireside scenes to even count.

[> G without a doubt! That scene brings memories back from my youth and my 'first' time with DH, when we first did the deed - he was (and still is!) the finest looking man, I just could not believe he really wanted me, he was tall, well built, all I can say is that Michaelangelo's 'David' comes to mind! -- Natalie H, 08:02:10 12/19/08 Fri

[> F. although E. is a verra close second. -- LissC, 13:48:49 12/30/08 Tue

[> k. There is a scene in Fiery cross where the family has gathered at the Big house. Jamie is teaching Germaine to play a game. Fergus is telling Roger about a bawdy french song. The women are discussing childbirth. I just love the flow of this, the normalcy of it. It never mentions that it happens fireside, but it does say that the women retire to the hearth. Since the snow has just begun to melt, I know there is a fire there. In my head, at least. -- mommio, 23:13:37 12/30/08 Tue
