  • For me it was the moment when Jamie and Claire would be alone after he rescued her from her abductors. I feared what they would say to each other about rape, and how they would say it. How do you hold something so violent between you? (NT) -- lady, 09:58:32 10/03/08 Fri
  • Hands down for me was Claire's abduction & rape. While all the others are horrifying (esp. Jamie's), the fact that we are "inisde" Claire's head and almost experiencing what is happening to her first hand, was too much for me. I felt as if I were her, it seemed endless and frankly, just too graphic for me. I will never read that again. With Jamie, even though it is horrible, the fact that we hear him tell it to her and she is with him, kind of buffers the blow-for me at least. (NT) -- Rollaine, 10:22:55 10/03/08 Fri

      • I'm glad you said that, ladyphantom, because I too have been unable to re-read ABOSAA because of that business and also the fact that everything in J&C's life was falling apart. I have re-read the other 5 books at least 3 times - and I finally did re-read ABOSAA, just finishing last week. This sounds strange, but when I was reading ABOSAA the first time (I just "discovered" the series about 18 months ago, so was able to read them all back-to-back, with no breaks to wait for the next book to come out.   • Roger's hanging would be the moment for me. When Brianna and Jamie go thundering off in search for him and when they do - that one still moment when Brianna realizes that Roger could still be alive! The suspence held my stomach in knots. The relief that they found him, the fear they would be too late and what exactly they would find, and finally when Claire cuts into his throat so he could breathe.   • As for Claire's abduction, I knew she would be rescued, in some condition, heck, she was writing the narrative. It did bother me when she was gagged, because I'm very claustrophobic and I felt as though I was suffocating with her. But the biggest "Oh, crap!!!! moment was when they hanged Roger.   • Jamie giving Claire the choice on Craig na Dun in Outlander, and Claire having to choose between Frank and Jamie for the first and last time. Even though it was only a short passage and the results were revealed reasonably quickly, Jamie's love for Claire was so clear during this passage, and she made the commitment that would bind them together forever. I understand why a lot of people picked Claire's rape, and that was extremely emotional, but I was crying rather than almost shaking. I knew she'd be ok in the end.   • While all of the above were terrifying for me, for some reason I still get chills running up my back when I think of the scene where Claire is alone in the forrest sheltering under tree roots and she can see the light coming toward her from the distance until it is right in front of her. It was the night she found the skull with fillings in the teeth. She had lost her shoes and when Jamie finds her he tells her he knew she was in trouble because her shoes had mysteriously appeared at the door to their cabin.   • Although everything everyone has said already were horrible and I was a ball on nerves, the one moment when I really just freaked out and almost didn't keep going was when Jamie gets the letter at Lallybroch from the Bonnie Prince telling Jamie that he signed Jamie's name for him, thus forcing him to go to Culloden. That moment was the most dramatic for me. I almost stopped reading the rest of the Book.(Not to mention I had to stop because I was sobbing so hard I couldn't read the page, I'm sure everyone here has had that problem before : ) ) I had to make myself sit down and keep going, because I knew whatever came after it was not going to be good.   • As the books have so many nail-biting moments it 's difficult to choose just one of them. Roger's hanging, or Brianna sexual abuse by Stephen Bonnet being some of the most tense, but I agree with Elizabeth that Culloden was awful, we all know what was going to happen, and though our secret hopes were that Jamie HAD to survive, I was not very sure after the wonderful love scene between he and Claire.   • Claire's rape. I was reading it while camping with my Girl Scout troop in October - it was cold but I stayed up waay too late reading. I couldn't go to sleep until I found out she was back with Jamie again. Right when the drum started, my flashlight died! I found one near one of the girls' bunks and resumed reading.   • My first story line I would like to see wind up is the story of BJR…I want to know what happened to him at Culloden and what happened between him and Jamie at Culloden. I would also like to know what happened to him in general, if anything, that made him the sadistic pervert he was. Who was the infamous “Alex” he was referring to while he was abusing Jamie. I would like to see Mary Hawkins come about again in the new world and share a story how BJR confided/confessed to her everything/anything that ever happened to him to that resulted in how he came about as he did.   • My other storyline I would like summed up would be LOAGHAIRE’S story. I would like to find out also what happened to her to make her the way she was. What happened in her previous marriages? Why did she even marry Jamie in the first place? Why was she the way she was in her marriage to Jamie? Why does she so desperately still want to make Jamie’s life so miserable even knowing that Claire is back and Jamie wants nothing to do with Loaghaire? I would like to see Loaghaire make a play for Jamie’s affections again and for Claire to see this and say…”HE IS MINE!!!” and for Jamie to respond….” AS SHE IS MINE” (referencing Claire of course)….and for Loaghaire to finally die.   • My last story line to sum up would be Frank Randall….why did he leave the tombstone of Jamie’s name in Scotland? Why oh why? I want there to a letter to Claire that was never meant to be found…something Frank didn’t finish and have it explain why he left that tombstone.   • OK-I have to get this out of my system!! Claire, who not only synthesized penicillin, comes up with DNA testing. We discover after all, that Jamie is in fact, not Willie's father. Turns out Geneva was seducing all the stable men and we really don't know who it is. OK....that's over. Sorry, I know most of you like Willie-I'm the oddball who just isn't interested in his or LJG storyline-sorry to dissapoint, it's just me!   • A. I'll start the ball rolling again this month. I would love to see Jem & Mandy turn out to be "Super Time Travelers" -meaning they can come & go as they please without any detrimental effects. I think it was mentioned in Voyager that Claire may not survive another trip through the stones. But how cool would it be for Jem & Mandy to be the link through time for the family!   • A - but only if they can do it safely. Time-traveling is dangerous, even with gemstones, and they're just little kids. Would be neat to see them try it when they're a bit older, though. I'm glad Diana is absolutely against the idea of Jamie time-traveling under any circumstances; I really wouldn't want to see him in our time.     • I hope you are right! I would love to see Jamie and Claire reunited with their family and knowing that Jamie cannot time travel, the only option is for Bree and co to go back. But then, who in their right mind would want to go back to the 18th C and expose themselves and their children to danger?   • A. I don't want to ever see Jamie time traveling. I think we have already seen him on and off in the future as a ghost or an astral projection of himself (while dreaming in his own present) but don't want him to be subjected to the indignities of life in our times. I DO very much want Jem and Mandy to see their grandparents again. If they could safely "visit" them and return to their parents unharmed in the future, I think I could really enjoy watching how herself could make that all unfold for us.   • Actually, I think there has been enough timetravel already. But I would love if Mandy would have the same "dreamer" talent as Jamie and her brother. That way the kids could be the connection between the family. But I guess it will be A anyway. However a cold, rational part of me says that after sometime Jem probably won't recall Grandda and Grannie that well, and Mandy will certainly not have much memory of them. But I hope I'm wrong.
