when Black Jack throws Claire on the pile of frozen corpses to be devoured by wolves and closes that door and you know what he’s about to do to Jamie; when Claire faces Jamie’s demons trying to bring him from the arms of death at the Abbey; when Claire is summoned to the King’s chamber to use her powers of Dame Blanche to expose a liar; any scene with Geillis in Jamaica; when you realize that Geillis had sacrificed her husband to pass through the stones; when Brianna was raped by Stephen Bonnet; any conversation between Roger and Stephen on the ship; Roger’s night of agony in the Mohawk’s tent with the French priest who had been tortured and was about to face death by fire; at the Ridge, when they discover the dead family poisoned and burned; when Claire is abducted and raped; when Tom Christie tells Claire that Malva had infected them with meningitis intending to kill them. just to mention a few, by memory only, those scenes were so strong that they left a permanent impression in me.
