[> OK, I'll get it started again. I like him best when Claire returns to him, when he was about 45 (my age now). I liked Outlander story best (and oddly enough Voyager not at all), but I think it's because of my own age and maturity that I prefer him then. The young Jamie was nice, but I can relate better to a more mature, seasoned man. Truthfully, as great a character as he is, I'm sure no man of that time period acted that way...as an older man he seems more like a modern man. I think that is probably the biggest thing for me. -- Rollaine, 16:38:24 04/30/09 Thu

[> I prefer older Jamie, as in FC and ABOSAA. This takes a lot of thought for me because there are wonderful characteristics in younger Jamie, such as his vigorous lovemaking and his wonderfully witty humor. Older Jamie really turns me on because he has experienced life, is comfortable enough to let some of his vulnerabilities show through, and I like that he has his family gathered around him and has some years of peace. His life has been too broken by loss and sadness, so a (relatively)settled Jamie is my favorite. -- Merrymags, 18:37:59 04/30/09 Thu

[> Jamie is very entertaining and scrumptious when he is young, but I prefer the older and wiser Jamie. By that time he has lived through many challenges, loved and lost, traveled, led men, been imprisoned, etc., but his character just continues to grow. I find him much more interesting as a middle age man. Love his fatherly and grandfatherly moments! -- Gina-C, 18:49:20 04/30/09 Thu

[> I tend to like him best in whatever book I am (re)reading at the moment. Depending on my mood or interest in finding a particular scene, etc, I just pick up whatever book and open it and start reading--like many of us here, I am sure. But when I think of Jamie, I think of him at about 50-55, probably because I am 51. You know, though, it's just as Claire remarks in Voyager--you see the person and the old image you had of them blends with the new and "poof!" I can hardly separate them from one another when I start the next book. I know it sounds kind of bizarre (well, maybe not to you all {G}) but the stories are so familiar to me that choosing an age at which I prefer these characters would be like saying I loved my husband better when we were first married. Part of their charm is all the agonies I've been through with them! (BG) -- KathleenM, 19:05:20 04/30/09 Thu

[> Any age as long as he has no clothes on!! Well... if I must be serious, I guess I would have to say older as well. I think it is more to do with his relationship with Claire, that they have matured together and have a little more peace (at times) together. I did like the sexy and more violent young Jamie, but not sure how long I could really take that. :) -- Lady JenF :), 20:11:13 04/30/09 Thu

[> When we first meet Jamie, he is so wonderfully young and adventurous, I couldn't help but fall in love with him, as we all did. But when we meet him again as a more mature man, I really found him to be exactly what I want in a man now in this part of my life. He has had so many experiences in his life to shape him and I find him so much more intriguing. Even though bad things happen to him and Claire on the ridge, he has his family around him and Jamie seems so much more content with who he is as a man. Mature men are much better lovers because they have learned what their woman needs and they are so much more willing to give. -- LisaW, 21:00:52 04/30/09 Thu

[> You all summed it up beautifully. I am not nearly as eloquent in my writing, but I will try my best. I don't remember his exact age in the books (except for Outlander), but I much prefer the older Jamie. The younger Jamie, the inexperienced, somewhat innocent man... yet so strong and fierce, is undeniably attractive to me. But there is something about the older Jamie that puts me over the edge. He is stronger, wiser, and more deeply in love with Claire (separation of twenty years did nothing but strengthen their bond). I have grown to respect and love the man he has become. If only he were real. *sigh* -- ladyphantom, 07:23:51 05/01/09 Fri

[> I would have to say that I would take Jamie at ANY age. I think the one thing that attracts me to him is his ability to be true to himself. I fell in love with the Young Jamie and absolutely adore him .... so to be honest I would pick the young Jamie. I am in my mid 30's and am usually drawn to older men but when talking about our beloved Jamie I would take him young and older Jamie would be a very close second. -- Latinlassie, 08:13:07 05/01/09 Fri

[> I think that I would like older Jamie also. Love the young Jamie, but there is just something about a man who has some years on him. You know, its in the eyes. The experience. Have you ever looked at a photo of someone you know very well as a young person? Its almost as if they are not themselves in that photo. Because their eyes are different. That may sound goofy to you all but thats the way I see things. Aaah... Jamie...sigh. -- Miss Michele, 09:42:11 05/01/09 Fri

[> Got to be the older Jamie. It hurt my heart to know how lost he felt without Claire all those years. Once she returned and they became used to each other again, there was love shining through pages and healing my heart too. -- Bandruidh, 15:15:26 05/01/09 Fri

[> I prefer Jamie older, but not for the same reasons. I too fell for Young Jamie probably because when I first read the books I was 22 and had been married to my own DH for a whopping year. He was 18 when we married, he's a very big guy at 6'6", and he was, er...inexperienced but joyfully willing, lol. I relate the Young Jamie more to my husband because we are now 28 and 25, and more in love now than ever. He is a similar type of man, very physical and yet very, well, almost poetic if that makes sense. Why I prefer the older Jamie is because he lived through it all. He grew not only in his love for Claire but in his love for his child, his child's children, his tenants. He grew to shoulder the responsibility with, not ease but a familiarity and grace that eluded him as a younger man. I prefer the elder Jamie because it gives me a glimpse of our destination, my DH and I. I hope that one day we will have the depth and strength that can only come with time - like it did for Jamie and Claire -- LisaL., 17:53:08 05/01/09 Fri

[> I guess I'm in the minority here. I always picture Jamie as the 23 year old that we first met him as. I'm head over heels about that young man and still that 23 year old men are the best. Maybe because I'm only 26. -- SarahJean, 18:57:14 05/01/09 Fri

[> I think that I prefer the young, more innocent Jamie. He was so charming at that age! The older Jamie seems more aloof to me, less real for some reason. Besides, I can't come up with a good image of an older Jamie. I always picture a young man. Maybe it's the red hair, which I don't really like on older men. -- LalaB, 16:53:13 05/02/09 Sat

[> Jamie -- Lady Beth, 18:35:44 05/06/09 Wed

I guess I am in the minority as well. After reading the books several times, I have never been able to see much difference between the young and older Jamie. I always thought young Jamie was mature beyond his years. He was intelligent, witty, capable, confident, at times violent, a great lover after some lessons from Claire and always willing to do anything or endure anything for those he loved. And I see those same qualities in the older Jamie. With little added or taken away. I would be interested in some examples of the differences between the young and older Jamie.

[> I prefer the younger Jamie too. Jamie in Outlander is my favourite. Later on Claire described him as gallant and naive (compared to his later knowledge of Culloden). I really like him like that, and contrasting with the fact that he was so mature in the way he loved Claire. -- Chrissylass, 04:35:43 05/08/09 Fri

[> Happy Birthday Jamie -- Lady Redhead, 08:14:21 06/01/09 Mon

In love with Jamie at any age. But you have to admit you cannot beat sharing this experience: after he and Claire's marriage, when we find out he is a virgin and get to enjoy Claire guiding him through his first experience. His innocence was so endearing!
