I tend to like him best in whatever book I am (re)reading at the moment. Depending on my mood or interest in finding a particular scene, etc, I just pick up whatever book and open it and start reading--like many of us here, I am sure. But when I think of Jamie, I think of him at about 50-55, probably because I am 51. You know, though, it's just as Claire remarks in <I>Voyager</I>--you see the person and the old image you had of them blends with the new and "poof!" I can hardly separate them from one another when I start the next book. I know it sounds kind of bizarre (well, maybe not to you all {G}) but the stories are so familiar to me that choosing an age at which I prefer these characters would be like saying I loved my husband better when we were first married. Part of their charm is all the agonies I've been through with them! (BG) -- Broch Talk

I think it is more to do with his relationship with Claire, that they have matured together and have a little more peace (at times) together.
