I prefer Jamie older, but not for the same reasons. I too fell for Young Jamie probably because when I first read the books I was 22 and had been married to my own DH for a whopping year. He was 18 when we married, he's a very big guy at 6'6", and he was, er...inexperienced but joyfully willing, lol. I relate the Young Jamie more to my husband because we are now 28 and 25, and more in love now than ever. He is a similar type of man, very physical and yet very, well, almost poetic if that makes sense. Why I prefer the older Jamie is because he lived through it all. He grew not only in his love for Claire but in his love for his child, his child's children, his tenants. He grew to shoulder the responsibility with, not ease but a familiarity and grace that eluded him as a younger man. I prefer the elder Jamie because it gives me a glimpse of our destination, my DH and I. I hope that one day we will have the depth and strength that can only come with time - like it did for Jamie and Claire -- Broch Talk
