Subject: Just one comment re: Claire and female friendships. Claire was already somewhat disadvantaged here due to her unusual upbringing, her experience "thru the stones", etc. What really put paid to it, I think , was her medical training. When Claire went into medicine it was still unusual, and quite difficult, to be a woman doctor. And a surgeon - unheard of, largly speaking. She had no peers, and even if there had been another woman she could see as a potential friend, Frank made things difficult at home, at least initially. There was only school and Brianna. Medical training then was really rigorous and very unforgiving of personal needs, such as child care. There was just no time for friendship in her life, beyond the quick camaraderie of the OR or ward, and always with men, which reinforced her natural tendencies.
