Do buy a pass - train travel in Europe is generally great. UK trains are roomy and clean, usually with tables for a laptop, etc. Decide how many days you'll actually be needing the train, and buy passes for only that number of days. Don't buy for your entire trip - it's a waste of money. Congratulations and have a great trip!
