Subject: Traveling in Scotland

I went to Scotland last summer to the Gathering with the Moning Maniacs. Everything you mentioned is a must.Loch Ness cruise takes you to Urquart Castle- definitely! Edinbugh and the castle,Glasgow is a neat town,I loved it there.Must go to Iona if you are an archeology buff,Stirling Castle,Glencoe,Culloden.Didn't take any public trans. so I don't know about that.We went to some standing stones but I don't remember where they were, I've heard there are some great ones on the Isle of Lewis.

We were there in July- beautiful weather but I had a Columbia windbreaker with zip in fleecy lining was good for when we were near the ocean- Iona and Aberdeen,also a couple of cheap hoodies.Do not wear white sneakers-they will brand you as a tourist,go to a lage sporting goods store and get good hiking shoes,I happened to get mine at TJ Maxx.

Get your British pounds in the US before you go.Keep your eye on the exchange rate.There will be another Gathering in 2014 for the anniversary of Bannockburn.I had wanted to go to Scotland for years but kept saying next year/next year.I'm so glad I went-met cousins for the first time.I'm going back again,hopefully 2012,if not then 2014.
