i work in a small public library in shields and am a one woman hosing machine--i've hosed fellow workers, customers, strangers on the bus, friends--and half of south tyneside hospital by proxy-through my friend dallas who i hosed!
AND in feb 'the management' have decided to promote you as author of the month in all our libraries--buying multiple copies of 'the books', giving free reservations for your titles and special displays of stuff about you--wooohooo-and it is all cos i go on and on about j&c--you can tell i have a penchant for going on & on, aye???

It's truly an honor to be able to wish you the happiest of birthdays, Diana....'cause you've made me the happiest of lassies since I got my wee hands on The Books.
Meeting you for the first time in Surrey last October was priceless. Hearing you read from FC was a truly memorable experience for me. I have a picture that was taken of the two of us proudly displayed on my bookshelf right next to my signed copies of The Books.
Thank you for all the wonderful hours of enjoyment I've spent reading (and re-reading) The Books. I'm also very grateful to you for giving me all these exceptional friends here at Lallybroch. My life is richer because of them.

Since discovering your books, I have spent quiet evenings in my big, comfy rocking chair, lost in the world of Jamie and Claire and oblivious to the inane TV programs that my family enjoys....they are watching "Survivor" as I type this message...mon dieu! (she raises her chin and looks down her nose, ala Fergus) I even have to thank you for being the impetus behind my recieving an excellent Christmas present from the DH for once. I recieved silky, red plaid jammies instead of an electric pepper mill (I can grind those lil' peppercorns on my own, thank you) or some other 'practical' kitchen gadget. Huzzah, Diana! My husband and I can't thank you enough for publishing your books. He and I both have enjoyed them several times each. Being of Scottish descent your books inspired us to trace our roots back to Scotland. (I can't tell you how good my husband looks in his kilt) We also made a twelve day trip to the country of our ancestery. We can't begin to tell you the emotions felt as we walked Culloden field. Being a Douglas we knew we wouldn't find much Jacobite history on our family, but we both cried like babies when we reached the Fraser and also the McKenzie makers. It only rained on our trip one day out of twelve, and that was the day we visited Culloden. I don't think anyone should visit this historical landmark in any other type of weather. I tell my friends you should always experience Culloden on a cold rainy day.
Thanks to you also for your encouraging e-mail a couple of years ago. I have continued my short story writing and have actually had one published on the web. No money, but hey it was out there for a whole month.

Because I have got to know a lot of lovely people on this site. 8 of us , in the UK, even got together in December and had a great week-end .
