Subject: Plots/Summaries/Synopsis/Outline - blah, blah, blah >>>
So I spent the morning doing more Character Assessment's and refining James. Deb's comments on the CA HW re: James, made me realize there was an element missing - a hole in my story, a weak link. It needed to be fixed pronto. I spent the past week mulling over new twists/turns/ideas to the structure of my story. (TY Deb as I would've hated to be in the middle of the Nano project and find the story wasn't woriking out.) Would I have been able to fix it - probably, but I didn't need downtime thinking about story structure in the middle of a 30day deadline.
So, on top of refining James' character I also typed out a simple synopsis/plot/summary/outline (whatever you want to call it) regarding the story (see below).
I also started Chapter outlines. Yes, I'm trying to be organized before I set the keys flying on Nov. 1st. Though there's a big part of me who wants to just start typing out the story - the characters are speaking (quite loudly I might add), but the smaller side is winning the battle and saying, "No we must wait til November." Emma, James and Seren grumble but I ask them questions then write there answers down to be used later. I'm interviewing them - LOL and it's quite fun actually. They get to talk and I learn more about their story and what they want to say. They won't tell me the end of their story. I originally saw it one way but since I've been retweaking and listening - I'm not sure and they aren't saying. (damn them)
Anyways, I wanted to give a big THANK YOU to Deb for the CA homework assignment - it's helped me in more ways than one. I'm posting up a simple summary of Seren's Angel. Let me know what you think. Ask questions if you have any? The interviews with my characters has been eye-opening. :-) Perhaps a HW assignment can be to give a short summary of one our stories then we can submit back to that person some interview type questions to the characters of that story. Hmmm? It's an idea.

Angel and Seren are two evolved spirits thrust into human form. Angel becomes a new-light named Emma; while the other, Seren, jumps into a young, troubled boy named James.
Emma didn’t know she was an evolved spirit but through her unique gifts of clairvoyance, precognition and telepathy she begins at age twenty to remember, and through visions learns that another spirit, Seren, is in serious trouble. She’s frightened. If she’s remembering then he isn’t. Without his knowledge and abilities Seren will become a trapped spirit and eventually cease to be. This must not happen, but Emma fears it will, as her precognitive visions of the future have shown the human race and the world in utter chaos. The no-goods and wrong-ones are taking over; the balance in the world is off. Seren’s evolved spirit is needed in true home to train the new lights and thwart the evil ones take-over. If Seren ceases to exist, the future she sees in her visions will become a reality. Utilizing her gifts, Emma sets out, and finds Seren’s spirit trapped within a human. A human she inexplicitly finds herself attracted too then falling in love with.
James wonders if he’s going insane. Some days he wants out of this crazy life and other times he craves its existence. What was wrong with him? Where was the voice inside him that had helped guide him most of his life? It seems to have disappeared. Now he relies solely on his voice and the sound of his music. Early on, it soothed him and took him to higher realms, now it was just an escape from reality. It was showing in his songs. When his band Flux first started he sang of beauty, hope, faith, love; songs that lifted. Now his songs were of ugliness, sex, uncertainty, betrayal, deceit. Life was becoming a struggle for him. On the surface James was what everyone wanted him to be, the wild musician flirting with disaster. On the inside he craved and wanted beauty, love, belief and hope back, but this world wasn’t showing him it existed, that is, until Emma came into his life.
Seren knows James is a troubled old soul in search of desperate help. His friends are all no-goods and feed into his reckless nature. To keep up with his famous lifestyle James flirts dangerously with his human life: drinking in excess, drugs, driving fast. Seren knows there is a good side to James but its disappearing quick, taking him along with it. As a jumper he’s not supposed to intrude upon the human spirit but there was a mishap and Seren found he couldn’t leave. Seren’s spirit has been with James for twenty years and with every passing day the essence of his spirit has grown weak from James’ ugly memories and lifestyle. When James was young Seren intruded and was able to help, as the child listened. Now, Seren’s spirit could only call to James in brief moments while he slept. Drugs and alcohol made it very hard to reach him. Seren was losing the battle for James’ soul and with it, himself. Telepathically he had been calling out to the only spirit who could help. When Angel arrives as a human he learns that she and James are twin souls and he watches, fascinated, by the soul union. The fate of his existence rests in their hands. As love and happiness consumes them, Seren wrestles with the knowledge that he soon might cease to be. What needs to be done to save him is the ultimate act, and Seren is not quite sure either of them can do it.
Emma realizes James is her twin soul sent to earth many incarnations ago. When twin souls meet up as humans a soul union takes place. Balance is restored in their lives ,as the love they feel for one another outshines anything else. Emma and James are in love. Their worlds have collided and now they are beginning to re-see the beauty and feel the hope in the world around them. There is light in their world again. Emma would gladly give up her life for James and him for her but now she’s torn. Could she give up her twin soul and their love and happiness to save Seren. His spirit needs to be freed, and she knows the only way for that to happen will break not only her heart but her spirit - James will have to die.

This is going to be great and tragic all at once. I think you're really on to something here Steph, and I eagerly await Nano so I can read more.

Thank you. The story is really coming together. The ending will be quite powerful. I'm still working it out but I probably won't know myself (how it ends) until I'm almost there. No matter which way I think about it, I think Kleenex will need to be nearby. Going to be a hard ending to write. I'm getting emotional thinking about it as the characters are in that stage of my mind where they feel so real.
I'm hoping the more organized I am about this venture (NANO) the easier it will be. Chapter outlines, for reference, are coming together nicely. I'm eager to start but I'm waiting.

1st Pep talk: YOU CAN DO IT!
Ok, so what genre do you want to write? Why don't you try your hand at something outside what you normally do. I found I had a penchant for horror/suspense. I always liked reading them and it must've rubbed off as my character Lord Mawry (from REMEMBRANCE) was a sick, twisted bastard. Who knew I could write him -not me- but honestly those scenes came easily. LOL should I have admitted that?
Anyways, If you want to bounce some ideas off on me - I'd be glad to help. I had to make a decision on which story I wanted to do and settled in on SA but it was tough. Now I'm stoked about doing it. :-) You will be too!
Glad to have you for the nervous-nelly November NaNo. Hope others from here are going to join us. Page????? Fi???? Anyone?

This is a great premise for a story, with potential for drama and tragedy.
Have you done a character assessment for Emma? I'm curious about what her character is like, how she is balanced against James, what her flaws are, what attracts her to him, what attracts him to her.

Emma's Character Assessment is under the CA HW assignement. Check her out. Thank you. I hope the story comes out the way I see/hear it going on in my head. :-)
