My uncle Lowell Sund flew a P-400(RAF export version of the P-39). If your father flew in N.Africa and Sicily and Italy, thne he was probably in 39s' the 81FG didn't get P-47's until mid-1944. The 91,92 and 93rd Squadron patches were not authorized until the mid-ninteen fifties. Pilots in WWII would have had only the 81st Fight Group patch, a dragon, (quite good looking). I'm having one reproduced for my A-2 flight jacket. (I flew for the USAF-Aux and USCS/DEA).
I've also been in touch with a son-in-law of of another 81FG pilot. And have a scan of his father-in-laws patch.
I'll you the images if ou e-mail me at mountainpilot@excite.com.
