Subject: The Jeep That Never Failed

It took a lot to wreck a jeep! Our command post in WW2 was assigned a PC (personnel carrier) for the EM and a GP (jeep) for the officers. I was only a sergeant, but frequently "borrowed" the jeep for quick trips around the area. One day, after parking at the top of a steep hill, I forgot to pull the hand brake. As I got out, the vehicle began rolling downhill, backwards, with me running after it, trying to reach in and pull the brake. I missed, so what eventually stopped the thing was a tree, whose branches caught the jeep's canvas top and brought it to a halt without damage and with the CO none the wiser, even though I drove it into a ditch later!
