Subject: Teenage love triangle? I need perspective

Does anyone have any "feeling" about the following situation? Weird? Wrong? Indifferent?

16 year old boy dates 15 year old girl for about 6 months. Break up isn't bitter but isn't friendly either. Both see the other as faulty partners. Boy moves on to new girlfriend, girl, well, I don't know exactly but she's in the same school so some semblance of contact remains.

2 years later, boy is 18, girl is 17. Girl starts liking the 16 year old *brother* (who, by the way, they dated each other for about a week in years gone by). 16 year old likes girl back, internet chatting and getting togethers ensue.

18 year old brother is p*ssed! Classmates of all think it's weird and wrong.

In what way is it weird and wrong? 18 year old is internet chatting with new person now who likes him (they go to school together). They aren't "dating", but they're interested and hang out sometimes. Should the 16 year old be advised to cool it - at least until fall when 18 year old is away at college?

16 year old has been "dateless" for 2 years. Not because no one's interested, but because he's picky. So he hooks up with someone that works - is it fair to him to advise him to stop dating her? I can see how it'd be weird if *I* dated someone my sister had dated and that person started visiting our house sometimes. Should 16 year old be expected to take the higher ground out of respect for his brother (who has generally been a jerk to everyone, even before the brother-dating issue)?
