Subject: Haven't read it, but I do recommend the prequels

I don't know if you have read the House trilogy which are prequels to the original Dune written by Frank's son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson who are also slated to write Dune 7.
While they have met with mixed reviews from hardcore Dune fans, all three books made the New York Times Bestseller lists and I found them to be extremely enjoyable.
I recommend them if you are looking for more Dune material.

The books are:
Dune: House Atreides
Dune: House Harkonnen
Dune: House Corrino

And Brian and Kevin are currently writing the "Legends" of Dune novels which are about the Butlerian Jihad, the formation of the Bene Gesserit, Mentats, and Sowrdmaster, the Empire, The Great Houses, and what caused the rift between the Atreides and Harkonnen.
They are:

Dune: The Butlerian Jihad (Now available)
Dune: The Machine Crusade (available in Oct. 2003)
Dune: The Battle of Corrin (Available in Oct. 2004)
