For another of Vejita's kickass reviews. The victim today? Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
Now if any of you have played any of the Legacy of Kain games before(Blood Omen, Blood Omen II(Awful), Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2) You know the series basically kicks major ass, except Soul Reaver 1 and 2 were very puzzle/story oriented. The fighting was pretty god awful, which was fine for any of us that enjoyed the fuckin awesome voice acting and storyline that the game offers. I wont go into detail about the story cause It'd take too long and ruin it for everyone. So I wont be including too many spoilers...maybe.
Ok, so lets get this review rolling.
I'll be grading the game in Gameplay/Graphics/Sound/Story/Controls/Misc.

Gameplay: 9/10
As far as these kind of games go, they dont get much better than this, at least for me. The game still retains much of the running around solving puzzle element as the Soul Reaver games had but...the poor combat system from Soul Reaver was totally redone to kick major ass. The game now features an auto-locking system that prevents you from quickly being overwhelmed by more than 1 enemy. It also is more geared towards large battles against 8 or more foes. You can quickly shift targets and unleash brutal combo's/spells. Tearing through waves of human soldiers as Kain is just unmatched kickass. I dare say that he kicks even more ass than me. VAE VICTUS!

Graphics: 9/10
The graphics on this game are pretty sharp. The mouth movements are supurb. Believe it or not its actually a big step up from Soul Reaver 2 in ALL aspects of graphics. The only reason I didnt give it 10 is because there are a few areas where you can see through walls, or collission detection stuff, big deal.

Sound: 10/10
Ok. This game OWNS the sound section. The music is quite awesome, and the ambience sounds are very mood setting. Especially the new creepy sounds for Raziel in the spectral realm(Think Eternal Darkness insanity sounds). Of course, it goes without saying that this game has an all star voice cast. Quite possibly the best of any game I have EVER played. So yeah, they win out on this catagory, easy.

Story: 7/10
Ok I know this rating is kind of low but thats because I havent beaten it yet. So far however its MUCH less story intensive compared to Soul Reaver 2. They seem to be pissing the awesome story they had setup away. I can only hope it gets better.

Controls: 8/10
Pretty solid controls. Its easy to switch between reaver blades and use combos. You can unleash tons of moves on multiple enemies without killing yourself. Not much else to say.

Misc. Stuff: 10/10
Because this is one of my favorite series, I have to give it a high rating. The game is quite good though, although if you've never played the previous games, I dont know if starting here is the best move to make. At least if you want to know what the hell is going on. Of course if you just want a fun game to play and dont care about the story, then pick this one up for sure.
So yeah, I give this game 9/10 in total. I didnt really go into detail about ALL the shit you can do in the game cause whats the point. Just buy the damn game and find out.
So yeah, thats it.
