For anyone who missed it, I think I'm really going to enjoy his character. He's determined to get the bad guys and sometimes pulls some borderline stunts to get the job done, but with the way some trials have gone (especially that of a certain ex football player) it's so satisfying to see! On last night's ep he put anyone they can remotely connect to the crime before a grand jury (said that would probably get some people shaken up enough to talk, "Walk softly, carry a big subpoena"). There was also a father in prison believed to have hired a contract killing on his family to keep them from testifying against him in his upcoming trial. He was being held in a different state, so DJE's character told him the funeral was coming up in a couple of days and suggested he come to the state for it. Since the guy came to the state of his own volition, they didn't have to waste time getting an extradition hearing. (In reality, the funeral had been held already, they just didn't tell the guy that)

I guess it's probably not the most ethical, but since it's a bad guy anyway, it's really enjoyable to watch! Kind of like what Jarod used to put people through on the Pretender.

He's also got some great dialogue rapport with the other characters. Overall, it's really good, much better than what I saw of the series last season, and I hope it lasts.

[> It was okay. I watched Close to Home last season and thought it was ho hum. I hope the writers add some zing to the show because it came off as formula lawyer drama. I also think that it's ironic that DJE's character uses the same questionable ethics that Lt. Vuckovic used in Jag and nothing has been said about it. -- Jaggie, 12:33:58 09/24/06 Sun

[> [> Speaking of irony, what about the bad guy named Rabb on the ep? LOL. As far as your question, maybe because Vukovic used the methods mostly as a defense attorney and James is a prosecutor? (Inside) -- Meg, 00:38:17 09/25/06 Mon

We've seen defense attorneys pull stunts before and gotten mad at them, so even if it's a good guy doing it and it's actually helping someone who's innocent, it's still really frowned upon.

However everyone has gotten so fed up with the justice system lately and the scum that gets off on technicalities or walks or gets way less of a sentence than they deserve I think it's more satisfying, for both the viewers and the characters. Maybe I'm biased because I've been rereading "His Name Is Ron" by the Goldman family lately, but I got a little too much enjoyment out of what he did. It reminded me of the episode of Eyes, where the investigators made a deal with a kidnapper: they would give him a forged passport so he could escape the country and all they wanted was the victim back. Of course, said passport was in the name of a terrorist on the most-wanted list. :)
