Subject: Reminder - DJE on Close To Home

Just a reminder, DJE's eps of Close to Home start tonight. Can't wait to see him. Caught the ad several times last night and he's looking great.

[> Just wanted to comment on DJE's role on Close to Home last night, Some spoilers...(see inside) -- Meg, 23:32:59 09/23/06 Sat

For anyone who missed it, I think I'm really going to enjoy his character. He's determined to get the bad guys and sometimes pulls some borderline stunts to get the job done, but with the way some trials have gone (especially that of a certain ex football player) it's so satisfying to see! On last night's ep he put anyone they can remotely connect to the crime before a grand jury (said that would probably get some people shaken up enough to talk, "Walk softly, carry a big subpoena"). There was also a father in prison believed to have hired a contract killing on his family to keep them from testifying against him in his upcoming trial. He was being held in a different state, so DJE's character told him the funeral was coming up in a couple of days and suggested he come to the state for it. Since the guy came to the state of his own volition, they didn't have to waste time getting an extradition hearing. (In reality, the funeral had been held already, they just didn't tell the guy that)

I guess it's probably not the most ethical, but since it's a bad guy anyway, it's really enjoyable to watch! Kind of like what Jarod used to put people through on the Pretender.

He's also got some great dialogue rapport with the other characters. Overall, it's really good, much better than what I saw of the series last season, and I hope it lasts.

[> It was okay. I watched Close to Home last season and thought it was ho hum. I hope the writers add some zing to the show because it came off as formula lawyer drama. I also think that it's ironic that DJE's character uses the same questionable ethics that Lt. Vuckovic used in Jag and nothing has been said about it. -- Jaggie, 12:33:58 09/24/06 Sun

[> [> Speaking of irony, what about the bad guy named Rabb on the ep? LOL. As far as your question, maybe because Vukovic used the methods mostly as a defense attorney and James is a prosecutor? (Inside) -- Meg, 00:38:17 09/25/06 Mon

We've seen defense attorneys pull stunts before and gotten mad at them, so even if it's a good guy doing it and it's actually helping someone who's innocent, it's still really frowned upon.

However everyone has gotten so fed up with the justice system lately and the scum that gets off on technicalities or walks or gets way less of a sentence than they deserve I think it's more satisfying, for both the viewers and the characters. Maybe I'm biased because I've been rereading "His Name Is Ron" by the Goldman family lately, but I got a little too much enjoyment out of what he did. It reminded me of the episode of Eyes, where the investigators made a deal with a kidnapper: they would give him a forged passport so he could escape the country and all they wanted was the victim back. Of course, said passport was in the name of a terrorist on the most-wanted list. :)

[> Reminder - DJE on Close to Home -- achaon, 17:11:38 09/25/06 Mon

I watched the show last year and last friday. I don't think I'll watch it again. It kind of rubs me the wrong way that DJE gets back on CBS when he caused the demise of JAG, while the rest of the cast are out in the cold.

[> [> Okay, you lost me. I thought DPB said there was no plan to bring DJE back for season 11. So if that was really why CBS cancelled the show, wouldn't it be DPB's fault instead? (N/T) -- Meg, 20:08:18 09/25/06 Mon

[> [> [> DJE's not signed to an S11 didn't cause JAG to end..if it had, we all knew around the 1st of year that DJE had signed with ABC, then CBS would've announced then & there that JAG was done. They gave TPTB a chance (albeit a slim one) to increase the ratings in that stupid demo group all networks want to impress, while reducing their costs (DJE's salary was about 1/6 of each ep cost)....it didn't work, & CBS waited until I believe like early April to announce JAG wouldn't be returning. The final ep had started or had been filmed, which is why there was so much Vic et al. Inside... -- Jennifer, 22:11:55 09/25/06 Mon

If TPTB had known IMHO early enough that this was it, I believe the final ep would've been more focused on Harm & Mac. I don't want to get into the whole "he said he did" blame game...there's a lot more to the story than any of us will ever know and don't really want to know LOL!

I know a lot of fans like to believe that the SOLE reason JAG ended was because DJE wouldn't be around for S11, but while I'm sure a factor, the network DID give the producers a chance to continue on, and it just didn't work. Like I said, if it was solely about DJE's leaving, CBS would've announced around the 1st of the year that this was it....they dangled that renewal carrott until the very last minute LOL!

I didn't want JAG to end...but I am grateful that we did get some resolution to Harm & Mac, in which we were lead to believe that they were going to get married & were finally together, as one. I can live with that....

Don't worry Aachon, Catherine Bell has a movie for Lifetime called Still Small Voices coming up...she's got a part in Evan Almighty (the sequel to Bruce Almighty) that is coming out late this year or early next year....she's currently filming a pilot for Lifetime called Army Wives which will hopefully be ordered to series....

JMJ has a recurring role on Bones....Steven Culp has a series with ABC called Traveler, I think its a mid-season replacement. Good things are in store for our JAG crew, its nice to see that they are working :)

But I'm like you, I won't watch C2H...never have, and never will. DJE isn't a draw for me, and the show doesn't interest me. That's not to say I don't wish him and them all good luck, but its not something I'm going to support.

[> Harm spoiled me big time so Close to Home was alright. Some people I know are loyal to blondie's husband though.LOL! Maybe if CBell is opposite DJE's character it will caught fire for me. -- Jesse, 18:40:13 09/30/06 Sat

[> [> To me DJE replaced Annabeth's old boss, not Annabeth's husband. But then with the kind of romantic tension they put on the pilot I can see where they'd think that. -- Meg, 03:47:02 10/02/06 Mon

[> Even before DJE this show bored me and I tuned in for DJE too and he's got little screentime which is understandable since he's not the star of this show but it still didnt grab me. Too bad they cant have CB play his wifey.LOL! -- Belinda, 14:22:42 10/02/06 Mon

[> [> This show is just awful and snooze city. And I wouldn't hold your breath on CB playing his wifey. They won't get within 10 feet of each other in future projects. They'll stay as far away from each other and the Mac/Harm era as possible. They'll want to spread their wings and do different things with differnent people (Thank Heavens). Also, CB has a new movie coming out for Lifetime TV, a new pilot for a new series on Lifetime called 'Army Wives' projected for January 2007 and Evan Almighty either coming out the end of this year first part of next year. -- Kathy, 12:22:45 10/03/06 Tue

[> [> [> [> Which one did you look up, Army Wives? You're right, it looks and sounds very good. Also you should look into her Lifetime movie called 'Still Small Voices', it's a mystery/thriller which sounds good as well. Good stuff to look forward to. -- Kathy, 17:04:56 10/03/06 Tue
