Subject: NEW JAG DVD'S

Saw the 1/2 price for JAG at Walmart also. Made me think about a comment DJE made during an interview with enewsCanada on 1/12/07 saying that if he looked back on his life he wasted a quarter of his life on JAG. Not sure what his problem is but that is a real slap when he would not be where he is today, in his life, if it were not for JAG. It just turned me off and from now on I will wait for the 1/2 price DVD's. I really liked the whole cast and as far as I am concerned if it were not for Catherine Bell and the rest of that great ensemble cast JAG would have been just as boring as Close To Home. Just goes to show one person can not take credit for "carrying" a show. I don't believe CTH's rating are as good as JAG's were. Maybe he is still smarting over that fact that Bellisario would not negotiate with him for one more season on JAG. Would really love to know what happened. I like DJE. He is a good actor, thanks to JAG, but it is really disappointing when he says negative things about a great series.

[> I think he just meant he was type cast and has problems finding other type roles to play. He is probably right, we can't let go of him as "Harm." -- DAR, 15:28:50 02/24/07 Sat

[> You can listen to that interview if you go the Harmyboard,go to other jag links, click "forDJE",click site updates, scroll down to Jan 20,2007 E Talk Canada and there you can listen to his remarks. -- LW, 15:47:22 02/24/07 Sat

[> I did go and listen to this (thanks, LW, for the directions to the clip), and I didn't interpret it as being a slap at JAG. It sounded as if he was referring to the long, hard schedule and the amount of time it took him away from his family. (inside) -- Deemus (with rose-colored glasses firmly in place), 17:17:33 02/24/07 Sat

His comment was something like, "If I died right now, I would have wasted a quarter of my life of JAG." In other words, it was that long that he missed out on a lot of family time. I agree, it could have been phrased in a less negative way, but I prefer to hear it as a time complaint, not a series/cast/story line complaint.

[> I saw the original interview and I think it was tongue-in-cheek (inside) -- Meg, 23:16:22 02/24/07 Sat

Part of it might have been feeling bad for the time he spent from his family. However the whole tone of that interview was very much teasing. DJE was grinning a lot and joking around. It could have just been a comment made in jest to a question like, "Think you've spent enough time as a lawyer?" or something else directed in his longevity. Since they couldn't even show us the clip in context, only in three previews and then cut it from the actual interview, I doubt it's anything to take very seriously.

[> I'm with you bt on this one. I'm so tired of the excuses made for what comes out of that mans mouth. This isn't the first arrogant and slap in the face comment he's made. This comment "If I died right now I'd have wasted a 1/4 of my life on Jag", has nothing to do at all with him not spending enough time with his family. That's is such bull and just an excuse. If he wanted to spend more time with his family all he had to do was bring his daughter to the set with him like most other actor/actress parents do. And what the he**, his wife worked on the show with him. -- sick of dje's arrogant remarks..., 18:08:37 02/25/07 Sun

[> [> I've not heard one sarcastic remark like his come from any of the other cast members of Jag, only him. I think he is still smarting b/c Bellisario wouldn't resign him. The fact is he's been making smart a** and negative and untrue comments ever since he left the show. And the minimal amount of work he's gotten since Jag speaks for itself as well. He keeps this up and no one with want to hire him in the future. -- no longer a fan of dje..., 18:17:10 02/25/07 Sun

[> [> [> If it was meant honestly, than I'd be pretty mad too. But on the clip he honestly doesn't look sarcastic or bitter. It really does look like he's just joking around. And he was teasing quite a bit during the interview... -- Meg, 18:46:55 02/25/07 Sun

There was at least three cases where he was asked a question and he'd make a joking comment that if it was serious, would have been bad, but you can see from his grin that he wasn't. At one point both him and the interviewer were kidding about how he always picks up the Canadian accent when he comes home on vacation.

There was also a lot of kidding about how he's back on a legal show and it's like that's all he gets to play. At one point he rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, and don't forget Street Legal." And then he grinned. I'm thinking the quote in question came on the tail of that.

I could be wrong. But I think if he was really serious, the interview would have made more about it and showed more in relation to that. Considering that they couldn't even be bothered to show us the actual question that preceded the comment or give us anything else but that quote - and only showed that in a preview, I would really take it with a grain of salt.

I have never, nor will I ever say anything hateful about Catherine. She is a fine actress, and seems to be a genuine person. -- Gree, 19:12:15 02/27/07 Tue

[> [> The whole wanting to spend more time stuff is BS IMHO. He's said that in relation to his part on Close to Home, that he took it because the part was smaller and he wanted to spend more time with the family. If that's the case, why did he try to get a one hour pilot off the ground last summer? If that show had been picked up, he would have been spending at least as much time on the set working on the new show as he did on JAG. -- Cindy, 12:59:57 02/26/07 Mon

[> I am disappointed that DJE felt like he wasted his time on JAG. I think JAG was a good show and that it allowed him to have a lifestyle and financial freedom 99% of the rest of us could not imagine. I spend 12 to 14 hours at work many days a week without the big bucks he earns and I miss a lot of time with my family. It seems that he could be more appreciative. -- Jaggie, 19:23:50 02/25/07 Sun

[> [> I agree Jaggie on being disappointed...It makes one wonder if something was taken out of context. Yes I know things towards the end got a little strained between David & Bellisario Productions, but it seems here lately all he does is make not so nice comments about the show, the cast, etc., & I really hope he doesn't feel he wasted 10 years. My gosh you had a well paying job for 10 years...you got a chance to direct, your wife was added to the cast & employed for a few seasons where she was earning money too & they could spend time together, & I don't understand it. -- Jennifer, 22:57:19 02/25/07 Sun

If he truly felt it was a waste of time why didn't he leave earlier? I really hope something was taken out of context, cause from this appearance only it *seems* like another ill-advised comment. Something like "oh man did I just say that??" Like I said I know things were strained at the end, but I hope all the cast, including David has more fond memories of JAG & not that it wasted their time.

[> [> [> Forgot to add I think we all know how certain things can be edited & taken out of context. I really hope that as much enjoyment as the fans got from JAG & the characters, that no one feels that they wasted their time on the show. I mean look at us, its two years since JAG went off the air & we are still discussing it, our favorite eps, our favorite characters, its still going strong for many of us :) -- Jennifer, 23:19:32 02/25/07 Sun

[> Oh man, don't even get me started on what comes out of this guys mouth. He's made comments like these since he left Jag and they don't surprise me just as his earlier ones don't anymore. I agree with what you said also bt. -- Kathy, 11:22:17 02/26/07 Mon

[> [> What comments are you referring to? The only ones I've heard are (inside)... -- Meg, 17:04:44 02/26/07 Mon

The comment about carrying the show - which I'd taken as a reference to the fact that the critics' eyes would always be on him, even though it was an ensemble series the eyes are usually on the male lead. (Plus JAG hadn't started out as an ensemble, giving the critics even less opportunity to get it right). And now this one. What other comments are you referring to?

I think maybe he could use a bit of media training, since he seems to get caught in situations like this a little too often, but I never took it as a sign of attitude. There was a gymnastics coach who was the same way - great guy, but didn't realize how the media could twist his words until he'd been shown a few times as making seemingly inane comments. Said comments were fine though when you read them in context and he did eventually learn.

[> I don't think DJE's feelings are at all unusual. Personally, if I were to die tomorrow one of my main regrets would be that I spent so much time working (read that as wasted) that I didn't really enjoy the things and the people who are closest to me. I don't know of anyone who regrets more time with their family, but I know a lot of people who are sorry they spent so much time on their jobs. Just another viewpoint. -- NanaSue, 01:39:50 02/27/07 Tue

[> [> Truthfully who cares. Reminds me of DD of X-Files getting on the arrogant side and wanting to get out of the TV show so bad but now where is he exactly? He is now the ONE campaining to bring back the X-files to the big screen but it may never happen because of the Chris Carter and Fox ongoing legal dispute. -- Caitlin, 14:10:21 02/27/07 Tue

[> Just an unfortunate thing to say...maybe out of context ..or maybe said out of bitterness with the negotiations in the last year of JAG.... But it sounds so ungrateful... and it makes him sound like a big jacka**.... Too bad...He made alot of money and tons of loyal fans out of that 10 year waste of time... -- Artie, 21:14:32 02/27/07 Tue

[> I have actually heard really negative things about DJE in person... that he doesn't think JAG was good enough for him and that he was jealous of all the attention CB got... I don't know 100% if they are true but I heard them from a reliable source inside production. So this doesn't really surprise me... but it does surprise me that they left it on the DVD! -- JAGfan1, 10:42:44 04/14/07 Sat
