Subject: Zeke, Roy Williams isn't going anywhere...
In reply to: ZEKE 's message, "Must North Carolina break the bank to get Roy Williams?" on 14:09:09 04/01/03 Tue

They've been beating this to death on the sports talk shows in the Kansas City area, where they actually know something about this situation, and there really isn't anything there.

The one complicating factor is that KU has an athletic director who Roy pretty much detests and wishes would just go away. Some people have speculated that he may leave to get away from this guy. Roy won't even say the guys name out loud. Among other things Roy doesn't like the way his good friend Terry Allen was let go from the football job.

Bottom line is, he ain't going nowhere. He's coaching in probably the best conference, year in and year out, in the country. He has some nice regional rivalries - why would he want to jump into the life and death struggle annually with Satan, I mean, Coach K.?

Sorry to say, but the ACC is *not* a step up from the Big 12, not anymore. And the Big 12 has built a pretty damn good array of coaches, that I would put up against any conference in the country, ensuring continued success. Legends like Williams, Sampson, Sutton, Knight, and younger up and comers like Eustachy, Snyder, Barnes, etc.

If he didn't go a few years ago, he never will. That was the best shot for getting him away from KU. And KU's current success just cements the deal.
