You have inflicted an interminable wound. My thoughts helped you find the rational for your model. A model that is dangerous and currently being phased out by most military institutions.

A firefighter is more likely to save you and return home, when she has a family waiting for her. And if she views every person in distress as she would a family member (as is taught in training) the chances of a positive outcome grow exponentially. The greatest danger in all first responder professions is NOT being distracted by family ties! Even the Marines had to discontinue disallowing married soldiers into their elite units. Being married is a predictor of a good soldier. Your research is outdated and no longer suitable.

You're putting out Janeway like one of those colossal aircraft carriers sitting permanently docked at some remote port. Janeway has become an inanimate object. She's no longer viable as a leader because she's in love.

You view love as a weakness.

No, love is and has been Kathryn's greatest strength these past years. It's part of what helped make her that 'great' captain. But yes, it is always going to be her greatest weakness as well. That's how love is. And she is making it a strength again as she moves on to her new life. I can only write it my way and while its clear its never going to be to your liking, I write for myself so it is what it is, and will never be anything more. *shrug*

Thanks ladies for a very interesting and thought provoking discussion on the positives as well as downfalls of love as pertains to our beloved and intrepid Janeway.

Gina, I have to say that I agree with your perspective even though it saddens me to think there will be no more J/7 stories beyond #20. I have vastly enjoyed reading all of your work for the past 10 years and continue to reread your stories whenever I need an emotional and spiritual lift, which lately has been at work! But I digress.

I have a question for you now Gina. I know you mentioned that you have no interest in writing Janeway as an admirial and of course I respect your feelings on this. How about Janeway as a mother? I and others I'm sure have wanted to see this happen since JB and it looks like now we will be denied this opportunity. Not only to see Janeway going through pregnancy (which personally I think would be hilarious, not to mention quite moving/emotional) but how she would interact with a child and how she and Seven would be as parents which of course would change both of their lives profoundly. So, do you have any interest in exploring this with our favorite couple? If not, again, I understand and want to take the opportunity to thank you for all of your wonderful stories and for the countless hours of pleasure that your brilliant writing and character development have given me over the years.

All my best wishes.

No, motherhood holds no interest for me. And yeah, while writing Janeway as pregnant would be hilarious, it isn't enough to generate a story.

And I never said I wouldn't write J/7 again. Just that this incarnation of Janeway and Seven is coming to an end. I do have an idea for a sequel for Adrift that I want to do. That Admiral Janeway would be interesting to me because she is just becoming involved with Seven.

Fair enough Gina, and thanks for giving me hope that there might be more J/7 down the pike. I'll take them in whatever form you decide to write them because I know it will be great!

Cheers.

Well, I loved Admiral Necheyev, and would be extremely curious to see Janeway in that role. The Section 31 episodes were extremely intriguing, and terribly engaging. And there, Janeway wasn't traveling in space. I think that there are still many aspects of her to explore, even as an admiral. Being an admiral isn't necessarily the end of the J we know and love.
I agree with Gina about maternity being not too interesting to write-read, but I have found pleasure in anything you've written so far, Gina. So, who knows. And there are alternate universes, as we've see. I'd be interested in your take on the alternate Janeway and Seven, too, but I realize that a non-borg Seven isn't as naive and interesting as the other one...
Anyway, your series has been amazingly good. I can't even define how funny, engaging, lovely it was, from beginning to where it is now. So do what you want, write J/S as long as you feel like it. And don't worry, we'll be forever in debt to you no matter when you'll end it.

No. That's just it, love cannot be a weakness and strength at the same time. You are reading it from the perspective of someone that would exploit or encourage it. From someone who carries it, that is the source of strength.

If am enamored by your writing. I don't want to influence you or persuade you. I wanted you to see my perpective as someone who viewed Janeway differently, and loved her just as much. She needs a bit of rescuing. You have woven her in such a tight fabric. I wanted her to be free, she's earned it.

It wouldn't be wrong to see someone you love through someone else's eyes, consider it an opportunity when that someone loves them just as much, if not more....

What is not to my liking is that Janeway should have it all. She has given us her best, anything short of that in return is lamentable. You've stymied my arguments and I feel like a barrister who has given a poor defense. That too is not to my liking. I'm left at the mercy of the court and must trust that my charge will not be held by my own inadequacy. Given what has transpired all I can feel is sadness. Adding to my distress, I know the proceedings were ended before the truth was achieved.

You have powerful insight, you need more perspective.
