Well, in the beginning, I chose beta readers from the emails I got on my stories. I found myself in really deep discussions of characters and Trek in the emails and after awhile, I just starting sending story bits to them for critique. Eventually, I created a mailing list for those people and that's how I've worked it ever since. These particular people had a way of putting across their viewpoints in ways that didn't strike me the wrong way, and I can't say it any better than that. Two people can say the same exact thing and one can be listened to while the other immediately sparks every nerve. It's a fine line, I guess, and how ideas are communicated is a delicate and clever skill. Few people actually have it. I know I don't, which is why I don't beta read for others. I'm far too blunt.

As time went on, I lost some really good and valuable betas through death, and life (college, etc) and honestly, I've been trying to replace them ever since. I think I've got a good group now, but it's not easy because my story bits are dumped on them out of the blue and when they get them, they have to assess them pretty quickly because I tend not to send them until the story is either finished or practicually finished. When I was writing and posted every two weeks, my betas had two to three chapters to go through every day. Not much wonder I burnt them out. *G* Now I go at a much slower pace.

I do know this. It's hard work and any reward is merely from a personal satisfaction standpoint.

Thank you for the info.I'm not sure what in particular you or anyone else really would want in terms of assessment but I do love your stories. I am actually on my second go thru of th JB and Millinium series, I can't wait for #19 to be finished. I do have hopes about certain threads that have caught my interest but considering the only complaint I could have is the "END" I have no doubt I'll continue to love whatever you write. As far as time is considered I tend to spend all my free time reading J/7 stories, so much so that I am finding it hard to find new ones that I haven't already read.Luckily there are those that I can enjoy over and over again.
