Actually, I enjoyed both lines of thought. I agree that the "together" Nikki was more in line with the series. Having Helen "explain herself" was appropriate and well done. Helen's journey was a difficult one and their situation in Larkhall had been next to impossible.

The 3-parter was exceptional in that there are many on the message boards that would agree with Helen getting back more than a little bit of what she gave Nikki. Some of the treatment of Helen I thought was somewhat mean spirited, and it certainly could have backfired. In some respects, Helen was "needier" than Nikki.

What would have been interesting was a bit of a backstory on both of them "before" prison to contrast to the "after" prison. But whatever you do, I am totally looking forward to it.

I'm starting to lose my train of thought, so I'd best sign off while I'm ahead.

Hello! I'm a great fan of your stories, especially after having read a bunch of badly-written others. I also agree with the general preference for the After Larkhall series. I too think that Nikki is a strong personality and that though she'd be affected by prison while incarcerated, the effects would wear off her pretty quickly once she was out. And I strongly disagree with anyone thinking that Helen deserves a bit of suffering. The poor woman did her best with an impossible situation. Anyway, keep it up... and where's this new installment we've been promised?

Why does Helen deserve a wee bit of suffering? Oh, that one's easy. Not 'cause she dumped Nikki so unceremoniously after the riot. But because she got involved with Thomas Waugh so soon afterward. Worse, to not even tell Nikki about it which gave Fenner a chance to do it for her. That really colored my opinion of Helen which had been quite good up until that point. And I watched the whole story unfold over the course of a few hours, already knowing pretty much how it ended. I can only imagine what it must have been like to watch it in 2000 one episode per week, without knowing if Nikki and Helen even had a chance, or if Helen would end up with Thomas. As it was, the ending will always seem a bit weak and rather rushed in my opinion. It was far better than nothing, of course, but it hardly made up for all those previous episodes of misery for Nikki.

Do you know that scene where Helen comes into Nikki's cell after Nikki's found out about Thomas? When Nikki is sitting there, forcing herself to apologize and to wish Helen luck, while all the time it's obvious her heart is absolutely shattering? That's the only scene in the whole series that can make me cry. Seeing Nikki pretend that a life of freedom without Helen is somehow better than to be imprisoned with her, to see her pretend that she can only be friends with Helen and not someone that loves her so much it hurts is something that will always get to me. So yeah, Helen needs to suffer a little bit for causing such suffering for Nikki. It's only fair. *G*

True.... you have a point. I'm completely hampered in my subjectivity by the fact that I phantasise about Helen Stewart almost constantly. In the Third Series I just thought the writing got a bit sloppy and rushed when it came to those two. The thing that most got to me, plot-wise, is when Di finds the nurse's uniform in Helen's office. I can understand her keeping it, but why in her office? Makes no sense. Same with the Thomas Waugh thing... I saw it as a pretty artificial way of keeping up the suspense about Helen's and Nikki's happy ending. Anyway. What I mean is, see how easy it is to let Helen off the hook when you blame the writers for her shortcomings?
Ok, version 2. Yes, you're right, Helen was completely out of her mind when she took up with Waugh, and not having the guts to tell Nikki was even worse. But hey.... the poor woman can't be perfect, and she was going through a hell of a time, what with not sleeping, following Fenner about... Does she really deserve to suffer? Does anyone? "Deserve".... it makes me a bit uncomfortable, you know? That's the way Bodybag thinks, the whole "suffer for your sins" mentality...
Anyway, what about my other question? When's the sequel going to hit our screens????????

I liked both versions of your Nikki. I thought the Pieces Nikki maybe more realistic of how one reacts after serving a few years in prison - not that I have any first hand knowledge of that ;) I'm sure which ever version you use will be equally excellent.
I haven't seen the whole Bad Girls series yet, but didn't Nikki hook up with that blondie before Helen hooked up with Thomas?
Your Bad Girls stories are the best, and I reread at least one of them every week. I'm eagerly waiting for another story :)

Ah, but the thing with blondie (Caroline Lewis) was that Helen didn't have to worry about her. She knew she was a nounce and that once it got out, Nikki wouldn't have anything to do with her. Plus, she had the added advantage of being able to transfer her out anytime. That actually would have been a far more interesting plotline had Caroline actually been in Larkhall for extortion. Then we would have seen if Nikki was just using her to get over Helen, if Helen would actually be jealous, or if the couple wouldn't have been able to overcome the dallience.

Sounds like a good story there, Gina. Are you going to write it? Pretty please.
