  • Being one of the top players in Michigan, in and of itself doesn't mean that much. Every area has it's up's and downs. I believe Evans will be good, but MSU didn't offer, so let's not get carried away. I like AJ with the ball in his hands.     • Evans was selected to the Michigan Dream Team (top 5 players). The fact that he signed with DU early means we will never know who else may have offered if he would have waited. The question is can he play with the big boys. I think he will prove that he can. AJ was not offered by Pitt and he clearly proved he can hang with their best.       • I expect Evans to do well. I just want to warn against automatically assuming that a player is great because he makes an all state team. Talent levels fluctuate in even the strongest areas. Wood was rated #10 in NYC and couldn't cut it here. In another year, the #10 player out of NYC would be our star. Who else offers is a better indicator.         • Why would you think a player is great because MSU offered him? Maybe they are good at point guard this year? Maybe they had other needs? Maybe they only had a couple scholarships and they needed other positions? Don't assume just because a larger school in a different conference didn't offer a scholarship means he's not talented. Let's start looking at the glass half-full not half-empty. He can ball. RE wouldn't have recruited him if he couldn't. It's all about the chemistry of a team. I like were we are. GO DUKES!               • Signing early doesn't mean much. Most players sign early now. The blue chippers get offered during their junior years and earlier. It's the players below that who have to decide whether to take a lesser offer (Evans), or hope to play their way into a big time offer (Kane). After that, I was quite disappointed, and considered how poorly I performed sometimes bordering on a disaster, which was to me a failure (athletically only) upon my standards.             • First of all, I never bash players. I am excited to have Eric on the squad. Huge get for Duquesne. I appreciate them coming to Duquesne if Ron Everhart recruits and offers them. It seems as though you are bashing him before he even gets started. I dont appreciate you saying Duquesne is a "lesser" offer either. From what I heard Kane doesn't have grades to qualify anywhere right now. I think that's part of it. Dont you? I also know plenty of guys who play their way to a "big time" offer and they ride pine for 4 years. It Means nothing if you don't play or get into school at all. • duq81, I'm curious. Have you seen in person any of these incoming freshman play? I have not, so I will always tend to favor players such as Jackson and Saunders (and to a lesser extent Clark) that I have seen who have proven that they can compete and succeed against A-10 competition. I tend to be very neutral regarding my feeling on incoming players; past success, accolates and offers are nice indicators, but not sure fire ways to predict success at the A-10 level. • Duq81: Not meaning to be argumentative (I do agree with most of your posts) but do you know how many big schools besides Duquesne recruited Norm Nixon (Back then we still were a basketball name). The answer is next to none. We went to Macon to watch a different player and Nixon caught Cinacola's eye. So they offered. Having watched Nixon from freshman to senior year, he too was a smooth and more advanceded PG despite the fact that Georgia, Georgia Tech, etc. didn't recruit him.   • LOL!!! I see Norman as being different only because no one was hyping him. The buzz about him started after he got here and guys saw how good he was. One thing I think many have missed with regard to Evans is the tradition of small Point guards in the A 10. There have been some good ones. Hopefully Evans can be the next Shawnta Rogers, or better.
