Subject: You are banking on Tabata and Alvarez being part of the core when they have played zero professional innings. Moreover, the free agent to try to sign this year for the Pirates would be Rick Ankiel. He can play all 3 OF positions, including RF where we desperately need a big arm and bat.

  • It's true difference-making players won't come here, but some stop-gaps are needed until the prospects are ready. There's no left-handed relief, 2nd base and SS are highly questionable, as is either RF/1st base, whichever Jones is not playing. And that's if Jones wasn't a half of a year wonder who won't be heard from again. I'd let LaRoche, Millings, etc. see if they can't stick this year. (NT) -- Rogabee, Thursday, October 08, 11:01:33am
