Tuesday afternoon 8/3/99:
One of the most outstanding, most dedicated high school teachers in Central Texas just came out of surgery at Austin's Seton Hospital. The doctors discovered malignancy in the lymph nodes and the lung. She has always been a fighter when it came to the needs of children but is, of course, reeling from this personal news. We think it is time for us to buckle down and fight for her...

The first thing she said in recovery was "Find out who that darlin' Lance Armstrong's doctors were, kids."
