I know I am in the vast minority, but I always liked the 4 cyl. X.

My biggest complain was that it had no cruise. (You can add intermittent windshield wipers fairly easily you know.) The other thing I didn't like about it was that the 2000 model had wimpy seats.

The wipers are an easy fix, but I don't see the gear ratio as being very easy to change, although your tire/wheel idea makes sense.
