A little expensive, but if you want something that will handle anything a 2WD has any business tackling, get a nice all-terrain. I have BF Goodrich ATs and they wear very well (60K+ easily) and give good traction all around from dry to wet to 18" of snow.
The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo is also very nice, and a little more street-friendly, but still quite good all around.
