Just been running in my rebuilt type 4, but keep having a problem with oil pressure lost over 5-10 mins it starts at 50 psi then tails off down to 12 and if left the pressure light comes on. It is fitted with turbo and external cooler with thermostat- all are primed and there is enough oil. The temp doesnt seem to be an issue and no major leaks. I am using Castrol GTX 15-30 oil. any ideas please :O)

Hi. Im thinking of starting my first engine build as Im fed up with the standard 1200 engine ive got. Im thinking of building a 1641 or maybe 1776, will these work with the standard 1200 gearbox and what sort of performance could I expect from each engine option assuming their both camed and carbed etc..

I also want to keep my 1200 for a spare and to use while im building the new engine, should I buy a second hand twin port 1600 as a base or just buy all new parts?

Firstly, I have just started to run in the motor in my '65 panel van which is mental! It is my first ever build, I'm really stoked and must thank John(JMR), Jim(Stateside),Paul(Harry Harpics) and Richard Morena all of which have supplied parts but more importantly have given time and advice freely. Also thanks for the replies from you guys who have taken time to respond to my postings.

Q1. what oil pressure should I want to be running, and what oil would you recommend, once run in? (2167cc,fk8,cr 8.1:1,worked 044s,48's - "the full english breakfast" )

Q2. How do the rocker tip/lash cap areas get lubricated?

P.S. sorry to Dave Smith for letting you down ref. the deep sump, my arrangements all went "pear-shaped".

1970's RHD 1302s Beetle project. This car has had a fair amount of work done already, which includes, New rear quarter, the passenger side heater channel has been replaced, drivers side has been repaired. Have sourced fairly good second hand doors and bonnet (hence the multi colours :O). The car has been stripped down both internally & externally as work has been started (no engine), but due to a lack of time the car has been sitting garaged for about a year. Obviously the car has the IRS style rear end and the Mcferson style front. I have all glass, and the car comes with a set of Empi 8’s (which would need a bit of renovation) £800 spent on car so far on the welding work at bits. Car could be used as a project or for parts, either way the car needs to go, if anyone is interested just make me an offer. Buyer collects from the Guildford area. My e-mail addresses are J@cal-look.net (home) and james.burns@etl.ericsson.se (work) I have picture that I can send you.

Date Posted: 13:07:52 05/22/02 Wed

I am building up my 1914cc type 1 motor and have some questions for the forum boys:-

Should you install both inner and outer valves springs to break in cam? Engle says only outer! seems a pain to break in cam then tear down engine install both springs then rebuild.

Can you dyno with only outer springs as above or do you need both springs? Seems a long time on dyno to strip down and replace springs if you break in cam and dyno engine in one session.

My inlet mainfolds have been welded to match my inlet ports on the cyl head and now when the cyl shroud tinware is in place the manifold is to deep to fit through the tinware cutout and onto the head. Can the tinware be modified and still maintain its purpose.

Any suggestions welcome (but not from Adam or Dave)

Hey,

Im giving some thought to selling my current car to buy an early sedan in which i want to put a 120hp 1914.

My problem is this...I've only been driving for 14 months and have yet to have my own insurance (i.e. no NCB!).

So, heres the question. What do you guys in a similar situation pay for insurance, and who with? This is really the only thing holding me back from getting my first street/strip bug.

Cheers guys,

When balancing the crank, you need to have the flywheel/ cluch and pressure plate balanced at the same time.

What about the other end? i.e. the pulley wheel. This is even more profound if you have a type 3 or 4 motor with the fan stuck on the end of the crank. Do people balance this?

Here are some details :)

Well the motor came out of my t25 3 weeks ago and was running really strong. Its from a 1980 model, however it was reconned about 5or7 years ago. The milage on the Van when I broke it was 80k. This milage was believed to be correct because the previous owner only used it to tow his Lotus replica to race meets. It was then owned by a BBC model maker who only used it once every month, after which I bought it.
The engine is in good condition, my plan was to use it in my Split Bus.

Sorry But it's another wing question, I have today got hold of a second hand Day Mouldings rear wing to try and sort out my rear left side problem (Cheers Justin),

Now the problem is that even though from measuring the wing it is the same size as the one on the right side of the car, the tyre still sticks out some, I am running a large wheel tyre combo, 6 X 15 205 1.9 Gti alloys with a monster 205/65 tyre, what I need to know is any suggestions as to what could be up, and secondly does anyone know if Day Mouldings do an oversize (Not Flared) wing, I could do with an extra inch (couldn't we all) on the inside to bring it out over the wheel, also do you think it would look funny with oversize rears and standard fronts.

Cheers, as it say my head is starting to hurt, and would love to possibly get an MOT and drive my car this year.

Simon.

***I have a PC for sale...***

Well, we all use 'em to browse this message board and after all, this sale will contribute towards completing my VW Drag Beetle.

So there! That's my justification for this posting!?!

Anyway, cutting to the chase, the PC in question is one I have built myself selecting only the best core components available last August. Everything has it's original documentation/drivers with it and your choice of any M/S Operating System can be installed. A generous package of games is also included. The spec is as follows;

AMD 1.2(266FSB)
ASUS A7A266 m/b
256Mb DDR
GeForce2MX
40Gb IBM drive
17" Hansol 710D
SBLive!
5.1 Surround sound speakers
Pioneer 105SZ DVD/CD
56K internal modem
Netgear 10/100 card
2 Floppy drives
Logitech i-touch keyboard
Optical mouse
Games include Quake arena, half-life, GP3, Star Trek Voyager, Star Wars Episode1, Icewind Dale.
Oh, also The EVIL DEAD on DVD!

This system is FAST and I reckon it should sell FAST too! So stick yer hands in yer pockets and get me racing...

B-) ***£550*** B-) should just about do it!

P.S I shall still be surfing this site on my other machine, so letting this one go won't cut me off!!

I've got an old school style cal bug.. very low (narrowed and sway-awayed front beam), also v.very bumpy (i imagine dropped spindles would help a lot?). Anyone got air suspension? worth it? any good?

Got a 1914cc engine, twin 40 dellortos, supposedly engle 120,dominator heads, balanced crank, lightened flywheel.. goes OK but clutch is slipping (what clutch should I get?).. currently got 1200 gearbox :( any ideas on better box? (not got much history on engine, apart from probably VolksSpares :( ... anyone got any ideas along the lines of how I could sort out clutch and gearbox and maybe some more power?

Sorry for all the questions.. still trying to get back upto speed (literally)

Hello all
71 beetle
really doesnt need any welding everything is hammer hitable
tax exempt (with letter from volkswagen confirming)
1500cc single port engine clean and runs well
new clutch and recon flywheel
solid beam
spare lights
easy MOT pass

This beetle is for sale to fund my other project. It does need a respray and the following bits and pieces
carpet
front seats and door cards
rewire to the column only (is running but wires are taped)
a part from that and some other small bits and bob's thats it. What would you pay for it? Im thinking about doing everything apart from the respray and re advertising it if offers are really low so i need a rough guide.
Thanks
