I have a 2332cc engine with fk89 cam dialed straight-up and degreed. 5.6 length rods. And 42cc's total (deck height,head cc's, and valve notch cc's)this is supposed to give me 14 to 1 compression. I've checked my compression and it is only 160psi with less than 2percent leakdown per cylinder. This seems extremely low to me for such a high compression engine.Any thoughts?

I'm looking to purchase a new Transmision for my 66 BAJA. But how the heck do I get the old swing axles off the old transmision? Do I have to pull the wheel bearing houseing or do I remove the trans case thrue bolts to get the swing axles off? PLEASE HELP:)

Mahle 94mm barrels and pistons for stroker crank.

These barrels and pistons are in as new condition, they have been used for around 20 minutes only. I have had then fully balanced to within 0.5g of each other and cleaned them for about eight hours so they are spotless. Includes Teflon buttons.

Normally these cost £185, teflon buttons are £14, and balancing costs £50... (total £249)

£125 including postage.

Hi everyone,
I have a 2110cc stroker motor fitted in my '64 Notch, and whilst it's fun, it's definitely underpowered compared to some of the reports I've read on the web of cars running similar sized engines. Ive got twin 44 IDF carbs and a merged exhaust, but the best I've run on the 1/4 mile is 16.2 secs. It's only got 041 heads (39 x 32 valves) and a Scat C35 cam. Can someone advise me on how to wisely spend about £500 on this engine that I have burning a whole in my pocket?? Should I blow it all on a set of Street Eliminators or go for cheaper heads plus new cam etc? If so, what?
Any advice would be appreciated, Cheers!

Subject: Alternator Conversion Kit

After my sound system munched it's way through 2 dynamos I decided to fit an alternator conversion kit with a Bosche alternator from Machine 7 to my custom bug. I've connected together the wires that went to the DF and 61 terminals of the regulator (mounted under the rear passenger seat) and also the two large red ones that went to the B+ terminal.
The damn thing won't charge the battery properly though. Strangely; the red charge warning light (idiot light) flickers on and off when I first start the engine at idle speed (when it's still cold), however when i increase the revs and the engine warms up the idiot light stays on and gets slightly brighter (although it is still quite dim).
These symptoms are the opposite to what the troubleshooting guide suggests (the light should go out when you increase the revs).
Has anyone got any ideas? I've rewired all the dodgey looking connections I could find and there seems to be no problem with the circuit's ground.

just got my new 1776 up and goin. it has got an engle 110, weber 40's, stock valves and heads, 4-1 header and hi-power heater boxes and a turbo muffler. What jetting would be the best for quick acceleration and also what is the correct timing advance for the engine?? Thanks for your help.

Also what is the correct runnning in procedure?? after breaking in the cam. 1000miles oil change then what???

i have a berg throttle linkage which i am currently fitting to a scat aftermarket 30hp style doghouse fan housing, when you bolt the linkage on it does not sit level across the engine, is this a common fault or do i have a faulty fan housing with incorrectly positioned holes? also i have an autometer cyl head temp gauge to fit and was wondering where the best place to fit the sender to the head is?

When trying to balance my Kadrons with a length of hose pipe to set volumes, left carb is fine, right carb you can hear a knocking coming through - quite loud. Valve clearences are correct. Is this a carb or engine problem??

Right now I am busy fly-cutting my heads so as to get upto a CR of 10.5:1. The heads started off at 61cc and need to be around 43cc. This seems to require a lot of cutting, perhaps in excess of 4mm and I am now wondering if I will need to notch the pistons.
Relevant engine spec...90.5 on 78mm crank, Engle FK10 and 1:4:1 rockers, 42x37.5 valves, 1.5mm deck.

I'd like to know at what level of cut/CR I am likely to get into notching the pistons as I'd rather not have to do this and just use a lower CR.

I was coming home from work tonight and opened her up a bit (90 ish) shortly after I saw alot of smoke in my rear view mirror so backed off sharpish and cruised slowly the rest of the way. I didnt notice any lack in power etc, on getting back I disscovered lots of oil around the filler cap and drips over the right hand side of the engine/carb, the oil level is on the full side -over max doh! I thought I double checked the level when I topped it up last. could this have raised the pressure in the engine forcing oil back up through the filler neck/cap, this then leaking onto the exhaust causing the smoke? or have I killed it?
I think I'll drain some oil...

I am re-building a Short wheelbase GP buggy based on a circa '59 beetle. I
want to convert the front brakes to discs. The front beam is king and link pin and is already lowered so I don't want to use dropped spindles.
What is the best method? By the way, I'm running 14' rims on the front.

This is really stupid; the other day i was trying to adjust the hight of the rear offside of my custom bug. Spring plate was jammed solid though, so after manny hours of gentle tapping and then many more of hitting it with a bloody great big hammer I gave up.
However - when I came to re-tightening the handbrake cable at the handbrake lever I dropped a small spanner down into the tunnel through one of the small gaps either side of the handbrake lever.
Could this little spanner some how of worked it's way down to a moving part in the engine? When I start the old girl up there is a nasty clanging sound. The sound dies away sometimes but then sometimes gets worse. The car seems to run alright but when you turn the engine off something clangs around for a couple of secounds after the engine has stopped.
I initially thought that my type 1 cooling fan had exploaded but i took it out and it was fine.
Any ideas?

I am building an aircraft that uses a two cylinder vw engine. I need one big valve head machined for 92mm cylinders,(the head will be cut in two,one piece for each side). a pair of 92mm barrels & pistons, a crankcase machined to take the cylinders and machined internally to clear a counterweighted crank. I also need the crank and rods.it really works, it will turn out about 34hp at 3400rpm. Can anyone help,or is it all too much to ask?

-I have a pair of CB manifolds for SuperFlows (i think they are for superflows) for sale. they come with injector boss. Brand new and never used got them with the EFI kit a few days back. I do not think I will be using those heads, so I have no use for them. I've just fitted a ceramic coated s/s 1 5/8 header and A1 muffler to my bug. It looks fantastic but it is a lot louder than I expected, when I drive past parked cars, it sets the alarms off!

Is it supposed to be this loud, or have I got a leak somewhere?

Also, the engine doesn't pick up as well as it used to, is this down to the exhaust? Will the carbs need rejetting due to the improved flow?

In good condition, new paint, 2000 miles on a 1600 vege engine, lowered de-chromed, but retained door handles and qtr lights. Lowered with adjustable shocks, runs, five spoke empis etc

Lots of nice bits, long bonnent, 1967 one year only decklid with 1303 louvres, gene berg locking stick...german twin pipe exhaust whose name alludes me...

I have photos and can make a list of bits and work required..[not alot]

Anyway, all yours tools the whole lot if you come and pick it up...

Porsche 911SC 3.0 (204bhp and a ton of torque!)engine and 915 gearbox for sale.
Engine needs exhaust but comes with everything you need to run it, oil system (tank, lines, cooler etc), wiring and control units, Fuel system (pumps and lines). It's matched (with clutch and starter motor) to the 915 transmission which has T2 sized output shafts, so it'll fit with 944 rear driveshafts (into T1, T3, Ghia etc)

Ive Just IRS'd my split, with a 1303S gearbox & my current 1500 is far too small to run it. I need more power & I need reliability as I intend to head to the west country from northampton most weekends if there's surf.

I'm thinking 1776 as I heard that barrels are thicker than 1835 or 1914 (thinking reliability again). Also thinking of 110 cam & machined standard 1600 heads (purely cost!).

I already have an 1800 type4 lying around with twin 40 Delortos that I intend to fit to thew new engine but I'd prefer to go back to standard 1600 format.

Any advice?
Is there an off the shelf unit I could buy instead of building?

I'm in the process of replacing the front disc pads on my beetle. The car's a '68 but the discs are post '71. The problem I have is that I can't push both the brake pad pistons back into the caliper at the same time. Both the pistons move freely enough, if I push one piston into the caliper the other one pushes out and vice-versa. When I remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir I can push in one piston and fit one brake pad in but the remaining piston refuses to go back into the caliper! Anybody know what the problem may be?

at start up oil pressure is 5 bar but after 10 minutes it falls to almost zero. I jacked the car up at the rear and removed the oil pump face plate, and, after slacking off the crankcase bolt eased out the pump body. What puzzles me is how little oil leaked out from the hole in the casing. Is this normal, the oil level in the engine was fine (before I jacked it. Should I do anything else other than replace the pump? The old pump is very worn.

Lost oil pressure after 10 mins running. Was about 5 bar at start up. Jacked rear of car and removed oil pump cover, small amoumt of oil leak. Slackened crankcase bolt nearest to oil pump and tapped out pump body. Still no oil leak from pump housing. Should I just renew pump and run it or should all of the engine oil have leaked out of pump housing? - dip dticked showed correct level before I jacked it.

Must be torquey but must also be economical, and have a good base for improvements. My budget is around £1500. Looking at fitting a 911 lump into the beetle, so my questions are, is the stud pattern for a 1975 porker engine the same as a beetle engine?, is there an adapter someone does if not?, or what are my other options. Hi, can anyone help. Have purchased a set of second hand twin 40mm dellortos, and have gone to install them on my engine, but i have a problem, both carburettors have 2 fuel lines is this correct. I have bought the dellorto tech manual, and from what i understand ONLY the left carb should be twin lined. Is this correct and if so what can i do to enable them to run on my beetle engine. Has been stripped as I started work in it a few years ago, been untouched ever since. Got most of the panels etc Might be good for parts or if someone wants a project? Has IRS rear.

Unbelievably I've actually spent £800 on the car so far, mainly on getting the rear quarter replaced.

If anyone is up for it, they would have to collect it themselves as it don't have a trailer, I'm in the Guildford area, can supply pics if wanted? Just mail me

Porsche 356 1600 S engine. In good running order when removed some years ago. Twin downdrafts with Knecht air filters, linkages, Fram filter, distributor ect ect.
Requires heater boxes and exhaust, otherwise complete.
Matching transmission with 356B ally finned drums.

Just wondering if anyone knows any good coachtrimmers in the South wales area?
I'm looking for somebody to fit a headlining and full length sunroof to my bug. I dunno for any nearby, I may go to Bernie Newbury but its a long way to go.

Complete 1200 engine (approx 85k) very clean, no dirt or rust, come eat your dinner off it! Full set of yellow tinware in very good order. Almost new exhaust and heat exchangers, coil and distributor (approx 2k on these parts)! carb, altenator etc..

Gotta go to make way for 1600!

Is anyone currently using the full Pertroix Ignitor system? It costs the guts of £200 for the Ignitor II, Flame Thrower II coil and Flame Thrower II leads - is it worth the investment?

Also on the off chance has anyone in Ireland got a good 1500 or 1600 gearbox for sale?

hello, i was just wondering if anybody knew where to find a uk based company that deals with wider arch kits for vw's?
I've spent loads of time phoning adverts in mags but they all involve importig from america and this is expensive. Also i'm looking for some twin 40 carbs in reasonable condition.
