Subject: type 4 flat spot

 have a type 4 1800 cc 1974/75 kombi with a annoying flat spot just off idle.have had it tuned several times but the problem comes back within days or weeks.what can I do.is there a known list of things that go wrong or is it just a case of finding the right person to fix it ???
