A new aftermarket exhaust system (headers & silencer) is going to improve your engine's performance but you have to re-jet your carbs (prefer those systems which scanvenge the cylinders). Consider using an aftermarket airfilter system for higher airflow and it would be advisable to use spiral pipes to guide cold air to your intake at cruising speeds. for sure you can consider replacing your carbs with progressive ones so you maintain mpg during low rpm driving while you have more power available at cruising. then another bolt on mod is to replace your rockers with a ratio higher than 1.25:1 as your van comes from factory with 1.25 ratio rockers.
Whatever you decide remember to re-jet your carbs, adjust the ignition and valve timing.
By replacing exhaust system and re-jeting the carbs you can expect an improvement from 5 to 10 bhp. But keep in mind that your mods must be torque oriented.
